It stopped being scary the instant we knew what was happening, the vampires went from mysterious to regular action-anime monsters with a weak attempt at making them sympathetic. The pink haired chick creeped me the fuck out when she was hanging around MC's room and you didn't really know what she was doing, but as soon as she started getting dialogue again she was just a shitty character with a horrible design.

I don't know man, to each his own I suppose.
I personally loved everything about Shiki. I laughed, I cried, I felt hype, and I felt despair. Near the end I was honestly starting to think that all was lost and there wouldn't be a violent retaliation by the humans and everyone would just die.
And as laughable as this sounds, Shiki was the first time any anime has ever made me feel actual fear. It was just a slight twinge, but it was still fear.
It'd definitely be in the top 30 or 40 things I've ever watched.
