When does this turn good? I saw manga pages from this that looked pretty ridiculous but the first few chapters are some typical slice of life garbage with a mary sue character. Will this manga get any likeable characters at all?

This. I wouldn't exactly say the series is perfect by any means, but I had a fun time reading it. It's just dumb fun. And the Minus Arc is the best arc.
If you can't get into that, you probably wouldn't like the rest of the series.
