The story is alright. God Eater 1/Burst/Resurrection do suffer from a pacing problem since there are times nothing happens and you just do a bunch of random missions but the story starts to pick up once Ren appears.
God Eater 2 has a better pacing since at least you're still doing something like helping out your teammates and then there's the Rage Burst arc.

It was a good way to display the various weapon types in the game.
It makes no sense to show favourtism to 1 particular weapon style in the anime when in-game he could choose between any of them.
On the other side, in the setting, you sort of choose your weapon and it's stuck with you.
