That's what op asked.
The special they did that circled around Johnny and the monsters was as close as we'll get. Wouldn't be bad to get a one shot movie illustrating the storyline and big fights. They would just need to choose which parts of the story "best to omit" to fit time, as bad as that sounds.

With the Final Fantasy remake I'm just hoping they maybe considering a Chrono Trigger remake. I may consider buying a console for the first time in decades just for that.
