K-On is good because some people enjoy watching things that relate to everyday life instead of a specific storyline and plot. I liked it because the situations and interactions struck a chord with me, but some people would rather stick to non-SOL stuff.
K-ON appeals almost exclusively to emotion rather than any sense of logic. If you don't feel it then you don't feel it. No hard feelings, just move on.

Anyway, K-on does a good job of executing what it is. Learn to separate your personal taste from critique. You can like things that aren't good, and you can dislike things that are good. K-on is in a class of things that is enjoyed by a large specific group of people and not enjoyed by a lot of other people.
K-on is character-driven light comedy iyashikei. You're either into that or you're not. But as character-driven light comedy iyashikei, it's very well executed. It's well-written, well-directed, and pretty funny.
Personally, I enjoyed it. I found parts slow. I'm sort of into iyashikei, I enjoy it well enough, but I usually get bored at points. There were a lot of choices I would've loved them to have made differently. But I can recognize that K-on is really good at what it does.

It is not good to judge too early like say operating off of the 3 episode rule, but I feel confident to make a call halfway through a 24 TV episodes + 3 specials show. Nobody has done much that hasn't already been covered earlier

I am just going to say what I said on previous thread.
People usually associate K-on with cute girls and they wouldn't be wrong. I mean there is no way to deny that the cutesy of the keions make a big part of the show however, for me what it makes the show memorable is the mix of relaxing atmosphere, lighthearted comedy, cute girls and some music. K-on might not be unique in this aspect but is was makes it wort of rewatch .
Other shows put way more enfaces in the girls like "look at this girl is so cute you must like her!" . And I am not saying this is a bad thing the girls in those shows are indeed really really cute. But in the case of K-on the girls are the strawberry on top of the cake. Is pretty and sweet but so it is what is under it. And that is of courseAnd that is of course the comfy, feel good effect that somehow manages to stay there after a rewatch. It might not be like the first time but the magic is certainly still there.

Well for a show that is suppose to be THE cute girls doing cute things they don't do many things that are inherently cute instead they do mundane things in a silly manner and thanks to their child like behavior they turn something like going to a general store into a amusing/cute situation.
In fact I think that is part of the charm of the show. The K-on girls feel like overgrown lolis they are teens but their behavior is too innocent/friendly for someone of their age. This is of course not something realistic but it fits well with the theme of the show.
I might be wrong thought I am new to the franchise. And I enjoyed it.

Your post matches so well with my initial opinion of the show that I think you are in the same situation I was 3 months ago with the exception I end up falling in love with the show.
Just like you I tough it was really dumb and Mio was one of the few sane characters. In fact she was the only reason I keep watching the show but my opinion completely reversed during season two. First of all there is a few things that everyone most consider before watching k-on.
What you are about to see is the happy highschool lives of 5 sweet but kind of silly girls. There is no forced drama, 2deep4you, or complex story.
HTT is a group of friends that happens to also be a band not the way the way around. Sure they write songs and play music but for them their friends takes priority. So dont expect them to become rock stars.
The show never tries to make like a you particular character you either slowly become attached to them or you don't. There is no "Oh she is had a hard life/as a trauma or saves orphans" episode.
If you think you might like what I listed then give it a try but NEVER marathon it. The show is very slow and it can only be appreciate while watching a few episodes a day.
