Not really. What the original deconstructed 2.22 plays straight. Shinji doesn't seem traumatized at all, Ayanami is just a quiet girl, Asuka is your standard tsundere, etc. and they overcome their various standard monster fights/whatever obstacles with the power of will and lots of punching.
