Also from a bit of empathy. He lied in the end and said it was a close fight. He didn't want to instantly crush a guy who had come so far searching for a worthy opponent. There was a lot going on in this fight that wasn't just who had the bigger muscles. You could even argue that Saitama lost, since his whole goal is to find someone who he can't steamroll.

That's wrong. Saitama gives certain opponents a head start to see what they've got. That's why he let Boros fuck around with him until he threatened to nuke the planet. He also moved on from Boros to pestering King on the very next day, then trying to find you know who, so no, Boros didn't make a life-changing impact or anything. Saitama was just a bit disappointed.
