I like the artstyle and it lets me pretend that love is real and something I can experience
It's a mix of two mediums I like; animation and music. It's got expressive characters, matching music for all scenes (most of the time), and it's a good way to pass the time. Shows from America just aren't as good as they were, what with the lack of fun cartoons or interesting shows. Mythbusters is done, so I have absolutely no shows to watch outside of anime and translated kamen rider stuff.

I've lost control of my life.
I'm in love with the artwork and artstyle, and I dig animation as a medium - much more of it comes from Japan that from the US, so it's an obvious choice.
However most anime plots, dialogues, etc are cringeworthy bad....at this point I watch just for the eyecandy and cute/sexy stuff.

Yeah, I find that even most anime that are considered "deep" like Madoka, Monogatari, Evangelion, etc - end up just coming off to me as convoluted(convoluted does not mean intelligent or good, they don't seem to understand this). I feel like a lot of anime and Japanese media is just made for baby-people. One of the only series that I legit was into for the plot recently was Psycho Pass, and even that I only liked S1.
I am partial to the Fate series though, I don't know why but I just like it a lot.
You can say I like anime because I've seen a few great ones and I've been searching for that same high ever since. It's like when you smoke that weed that's so dank and you search for something like it again.
It is not really superior to other forms of media, a lot of garbage with very few gems in it, but you do get a lot more content which is perfect for neets with too much time. Also it has more variety, you can only watch the totally dank american CSI agent saving the day so often.
I would say that overall Korean and Chinese cinema is superior though, but that might also be because I only watched the apparently very well regarded once so I dont have a good sample size

I grew up with dragon ball and slayers and ranma 1/2 on subbed VHS tapes and just got absorbed into the whole anime/video game culture.

Second, I love cuteness and that's the only medium that gives me what I want. I am highly skeptical about West's ability to produce anything like Zettai Bouei Leviathen, for once.
Third, the combination of cuteness and subtlety is even harder to come by and I'm huge sucker for that. Shows like Hyoka, Ookami Kodomo, Futakoi Alternative, manga like YKK (this one has a lot more to it, but whatever) and Hita Hita, you know the thrill.
Fourth, there is this whole revolutionary spirit to it. This is the industry which produced Mind Game, Haibane Renmei and FLCL, the one in which Studio 4C did not go out of business in the first year and Makoto Shinkai had a chance. Occasionally those fuckers just get together and decide that they are going to do the things the other way, and I love it. Admittedly, it happens less in recent years, but there's already enough stuff to last me a lifetime. Especially if I decide to dig into manga.
