Literally finished my first viewing last night.
At first I was afraid it was just going to be 2deep4u pseudointellectual bullshit, with how sporadic the imagery and editing in the first few episodes were, but as it went on and things actually started to fall in place it really became endearing in a way. The tone was unique, chilling without delving into full-on gore or horror, the visuals were striking, and the things that I didn't like about it at first turned out to be what made it all feel so unique in the end. It might've waited a fair bit before the more concrete details of the plot started to trickle in, but the last half felt really well paced in keeping you guessing while still giving some solid stuff to finally grip onto and work with. Plus, I'm a sucker for concepts on how perception relates to reality and the self.
Once it all came together, I think it was absolutely worth it.
I love Lain.
Its time for a rewatch, actually.
