When the rights transferred over I was not optimistic at all, but now that it's official, I'm feeling a strange sensation of subdued, moderate hype. At this point I don't see much of a purpose in hating on it or whining like a bitch about it. Most likely it will be like meeting an old friend again, it won't be the exactly same or as great as it was in the good ol' days, but overall it will be a refreshing experience. It's like welcoming something familiar and warm back into my life again, instead of fawning over the past over and over again; I'm looking forward to it.

If it was a cash grab 1 more season is enough, and they aren't doing some no budget shit because if they were they would have just done 1 season with a better budget and go from there. All the information we have indicates Naota has grown up and out of the picture and the main thing connecting the two series will be a much older Haruko, and the world/setting. If anything this looks like it'll be a re-telling of a similar story, but this one is about a girl growing up and experiencing crazy "puberty" instead of Naota.
I'm thinking of it like how Amagi Brilliant Park imported that character from FMP. The stories are connected by a thread, but they aren't directly related and one of them can be good even if the other is shit (not that I know if ABP is any good or not).

The reminds me of the Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon sequel. It just seems like a desperate attempt to milk something that was once great a long time ago. It's like the head honchos at Adult Swim woke up one day and said hey how can we make money really fast without coming up with any original ideas. And then FLCL 2 was born.
15 years is a pretty long time since it last aired the generation shift between the 2000's and 10's will most likely influence it.
Since this will obviously become a trend, what do you think will be the next old normienime to be milked in a eastern-western, most likely kickstarted production?
Outlaw Star? Cowboy Bebop? GITS? Maybe mesh two or three of these generic and indistinguishable mecha anime we've been getting these last few seasons for a new Robotech?

Naruto is far more popular in the west and while pokemon isn't necessarily more popular it has significantly more western fans
