Why has Japan stopped making stories based on western literature?
How about you lurk fucking more.

Why are anime based on Western Literature moe?
The same reason the entire industry panders to pedophiles now - non-pedophiles in Japan have better things to spend their money on than anime and studios refuse to adapt to a global digital viewership.
It's why anime has been culturally irrelevant this entire decade.
Because world masterpiece theater was canceled.
What about that Romeo and Juliet anime a while back?
Modern western literature is feminist nonsense, it's a joke
>>139035553
Anon, if anime panders to pedophiles, why was the only lolicon anime this season a 4 minute short?
>>139035648
It doesn't need to be based on modern literature.
>>139035676
Because he doesn't watch anime. He just generalizes based on 4chan posts.
>No WMT about Arthurian legends
>No WMT LOTRs
>NO WMT Great Expectations or other Dicken's novels
>No WMT In Search of Lost Time
I'm especially surprised at the last one, you'd think the Japanese being Francophiles would've taken a shot at making an anime of Proust's masterpiece.
>>139035676
Not him, but there's something that attracts skeeves to anime, even if the anime isn't 100% pandering to that crowd
>>139035454
The last werstern literature adaption I remember is that Ronja Robber one
Because RWBY
>>139035821
I don't see the first two working, but I'm warming to the last.
TV stations these days want something loud and colorful and also lots of tie-ins
>>139035951
Since WMT won't be able to do it who will? Can you imagine SHAFT's ISOLT?
At least the madeleine scene would be bizarre as fuck to watch.
>>139035553
Oldies were always pretty well received by pedophiles.
A LOTR anime would be awesome.
Speaking of WMT, why is Takahata such a wonderful director? Anne looks gorgeous.
>>139036694
Wouldn't it?
>>139035376
is this a spoonfeeding thread? What would you liked to see adapted? Any good examples of older adaptions?
>>139035376
Wrong. Ghibli does it all the time.
Because they already adapted everything worthwhile in the World Masterpiece Theatre.
A friendly reminder that homolust did not save GONZO.
>>139035376
Cause moe is the cancer killing anime
M O E
Did WMT actually influence anime, or did stand on it's own more or less. Like Ghibli in a way
Ghibli make several of them. I think they kind of boring compare to original works like Mononoke and Spirited away. Not that the source material is to blame, it is just they don't fully utilize their creativity and just add moe-ghibli same face to heroines and pretty background artworks. When Mani was there is good though.
>>139035676
Because he doest know of what he is talking about and is repeating what he heard somewhere else.
Alice in the Wonderland: the Anime when?
>>139037545
Lurk more
>>139037545
Did someone finally scan the book?
>>139035376
But all this moeshit comes from the original moeblob, who comes straight out of western lit, Alice from Alice in Wonderland.
The target audience for anime now prefers stuff with flashier looking character.
Anyone remember Emma: The Victorian Romance?
What was that about? What an unusual anime.
>>139037656
>Alice was a moeblob
Have you ever even read it?
The reason it was stopped was simple. Western adaptations focus a great deal on the story. The nips of today however fell victim to the disease that is called moe. Thus killing any interest in story and focusing almost solely on the kawaii uguu~ aspect of the characters and not on the story.
>>139037235
Yes it also destroyed japan itself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaYUxzUKV_M
>>139037894
The maid story based on a manga or like that one book about some lady?
>>139035376
Because studios don't want to take risks anymore. Self-insert harems and SoL are the go-to genres for half the studios nowadays. I would absolutely love a LoTR anime.
>>139035947
But RWBY got a manga adaption, and it's not even literature. That makes no sense.
>>139037945
The only reason anyone knows about the stories today is because Alice was moe. That is an uncontestable fact.
I wish Japan would adapt more non light novels
>>139038577
It happens, but larger novels tend to get mainly live-action adaptations.
Alice in Wonderland is still done to death and SHERLOCK literally hit the shelves a few weeks ago.
>>139035376
No NTR
>>139035376
Because Nippon Animation jumped the shark and became merch slaves.
>>139040807
>Nippon Animation
Its a shame western companies dont care about 2D, so they could draw some good anime on children books.
>>139039852
What is with Japan's boner for Alice in Wonderland?
>tfw no Siegfried anime
Manime is dead.
>>139035595
/thread
But most of those adaptations were 6/10 at best
>>139037545
I hope it'll be based on the fucking book then. Fuck disneyand their god-tier animation having zero regard for the source material
>>139041654
The Disney film was not bad at all. It was a kid's movie made in movie format, so it had to be shortened and toned down.
>>139041754
>was not bad
Tell me what the story was about then.
Pro tip: you literally can't
>>139041792
It's about a child not knowing or understanding how the adult world works. All these things in Wonderland are an interpretation of how the world can be confusing to such a young girl.
>>139041910
I asked for the plot synopsis of the disney movie. not some weird fanfic
>>139042240
That's literally what both the movie and the book are about. The only difference is the Disney movie cut out a lot of the other analogies put in the book.
>>139042331
>the only difference
Reread the book
>>139042347
I've read the book twice. Her other adventures are simply more analogies for the way adults do what would seemingly look nonsensical to even a child. Did you never do a book report for it in Middle School?
>>139035376
Why do you think?
>>139035376
Because light novel and manga adaptations feed the same industry. You might as well ask why creatively original anime is dead.
>>139041910
It's political satire. Many of the original illustrations for characters were recognizable caricatures of public figures and politicians. Lewis Carroll knew that the illustrator was a political cartoonist before he got hired and they collaborated closely enough that there's no way Carroll didn't know what was going on.
>>139041147
I'd much rather have Nibelungenlied.
>>139042755
Yes, which is why all of these things that happen look so insane. It's an interpretation of what the adults are doing in the imagination of a kid, and how it all seems so crazy to Alice.
>>139042755
Did the original Alice in Wonderland have illustrations?
>>139035553
>>139043283
That's almost correct. There are still tons of people here that like loli, and there has always been people against it. Everyone is too serious on new /a/ though. Everyone tries to be hip and cool by spouting off about how whatever post they don't like is from their website boogeymen.
>>139043283
Most accurate would be the "olde /a/" people in the background of the new /a/ pic, both groups are still around.
>>139042935
Yeah.I think they're pretty ugly though.I guess it was the standard then.
>>139042458
>I've read the book twice
and you misunderstood it twice
>>139044222
Nigger he's absolutely right. At least search the meaning behind the book on Google before you make such a fool of yourself.
>>139044258
>he's right because I've searched the meaning on google
I bet you think the Qu;ran is peacful too
>>139044311
Go ahead and tell us all what it's about, I've got my popcorn.
>>139044329
>spoonfeed me I haven't read it
>>139044427
You are so full of shit, jesus christ. He told you what the story is about and you're too much of a little bitch to even make up something that sounds intelligent.
>>139042935
Yes. Carroll tried to illustrate it himself at first but discovered that he absolutely sucked at drawing, so John Tenniel was hired. They collaborated to the extent where they worked out exactly how the words would frame Tenniel's insert illustrations rather than setting aside a whole page for one picture.
>>139035376
Most of the fantasy Ghibli movies are based off of Western literature, but we haven't had that kind of thing in a while.
>>139044427
You cannot be serious right now.
>>139038329
A very British story of cross-class love. Though the upper class guy was only landed gentry, so he's still technically an upstart as well.
I guess that only makes it that much worse because the father is trying to secure their position, and the kid is fucking it up by marrying a servant.
I also recommend Victorian Maid Maria, since it's basically like the best fetish material ever if you wanted to bang a busty blonde maid in the 1890s.
>>139044663
They seem to be based more of Shintoism than anything.
