I liked it
It was great aside from the horrendous pacing and quality CGI moments. Would really like to see Arslan grow up and become more manly like the LNs seem to indicate.

The narrator spelling shit "And thus Arslan was known as The Liberator" and other pretentious shit while he in fact did nothing.
It's an anime about some stupid useless brat who does nothing but transform O² in CO² while everyone else wants his head and others want to protect him.
Everything revolves around Arslan and is about Arslan yet he does nothing noteworthy, is not a fighter, is not a politician and is barely above a dead weight for his companions.
Yet the anime doesn't shut up about how great he will be, how good he is, how generous and other shit.

It doesn't. It constantly remarks from adversaries that Arslan is weak, incompetent, and too trusting. But by sheer character alone he manages to obtain the loyalty of people like Daryun and Narsus. Arslan himself states he feels he is unworthy because he mostly just sits on the side line and has to be reminded by his followers that a king and leader does not have to fight or devise every battle stratagem.
The writer and show is self-aware on if Arslan is really heroic or not, but argues that he is. And like Legend of the Galatic Heroes it has a cast of characters and people who act like classical, Greek/Roman heroes.
None of that is really pretentious. It's just not a modern standard.

It was bad. No real politicking, no gambits, battles won because the plot says Narsus is great and can pull ballistas out off his ass. Arslan is supremely boring. Farangis and Narsus' servant are so underused that they could be cut. Ugly copy paste soldiers. Character designs are uninspired. Unnecessary inclusion of magic.
