It isn't even the gay that ruined it for me, it's all the unexplained bullshit. His childhood friend is really some perfect vessel for a god, Nezumi was part of some bunch of people who got genocided but there is no real explanation, that picture with Shion's mom and the founders of No. 6 with no further reason, just the pacing of the last two or three episodes, bee god ex-machina; I could go on. I liked the dystopian feel, I liked the animation, hell I liked the characters, but they just went ahead and shat all over it.
I just wanted a show with a gay protag but then there were bees and forest people and safu destroyed everything

Thinking about it, they could have solved the problems with just removing any supernatural elements. They wouldn't have all oif this stuff that feels so shoehorned, we could have just had a nice simple story, but for some reason they had to go and put all of this stuff in out of the blue.

I hadn't thought of it but you're right, its ending is like the same shit as FMA. You have a story that has been set up perfectly for things to fall together in a logical way, then you introduce WW2 alternate realities, or you introduce a bee god, seemingly for no reason. I guess this really just is a running problem for them.
