Take the last fight in 3rei recently for example where they fought the legions of servants. Imagine if 90% of attacks against Ilya are suddenly nullified, and battle continuation and instinct makes the other 10% of attacks dodgable through honed ability.
Heracles is easily more useful than Arthuria in a lot of wars, especially if the enemy servants don't have enough strong NPs or don't manage to finish him off as he grows some immunity. He's a good crowd killer that can work off less prana than someone like Arthur who has to spam energy to clear crowds. Heracles can just do it because his strength is huge and they can't hurt him.

There's nothing wrong with the length of the flashback based on the material.
However since its a monthly manga, it feels a lot longer than it is at times. Doesn't help as well that they've been cutting the chapters short at times lately, to extend it a bit. Also we've bad a few break months since this started so it's also artificial extension.
They could have covered the same amount of material in about three chapters if each chapter was a bit longer I'd assume. Kind of obvious at this point that they're trying to make it fit into exactly one volume worth of material.
