Since the dust has settled, is it really that good? Should I watch it all the way through? Is it shit? Is season 2 really as bad as everyone makes it out to be?

Season 1 is actually good coming of age story about one's relationship with the harsh truths of reality. Wrapped up in kyoani-tier moe and action.
Season 2 is make more money by making more episodes but to make sure you don't disillusion the fans better not advance the plot or characters at all.

Season 1 is good
Season 2 is badbecause of Yuuta not Rikka, Yuuta actually becomes a terrible character in season 2 but everyone blames Rikka when she's the one who actually tried to develop.
Only watch season 2 if you enjoy seeing nice things being crushed.
I honestly didn't find S2 to be bad at all.
