What makes Japanese swords so good, is they are dual-layered swords - One layer is a folded lower-carbon steel that is more rigid and durable, while the outside is "V" folded onto the more rigid core with a more malleable higher-carbon material. Both are folded types of sttel which, if done right, gives an enormous amount of strength to the weapon.
The shit ones you see made form "murrcan high quality steel" are shit, because they are missing this quality to them and will either bend or break because the temper form the Hamon line is wrong.
