Do you like football/soccer anime, /a/?
>>
>>138886617
Hello, /a/'s management here.

Despite our best efforts, we have made egregious mistakes in Winter and have returned to the Spring Babbies. While we're looking to bounce right back up, we must run our roster poll once again:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/19VRpunJuR5A4xlaB9e9sE9MTan06YqfGpd4_bhADVG0/viewform

Inside you will find the poll's instructions, our current roster and a list of suggestions. This first round will be much shorter than usual as we believe not much has changed since the last time. Next week will be the second round where you will be able to select who do you want in or not.
Lastly, we're currently looking for some extra help as I (and only I) will not be able to help as much as I did in previous cups. As such, if you're interested in becoming a co-manager or even simply a tester, contact on of us in Skype (info inside poll as well).

Thanks for your time and support!

Nope, otherwise how would you explain teams like /u/, /mu/, etc constantly getting in the first 3-4 positions
>>
I want /sp/ to leave. How do you people even find these out so quickly anyway?

>>138887318
Not entirely true. The best analogy would be weighted RNG, where good teams stay good most of the time with occasional hiccups and bad/average teams will remain that way until they git gud.
I've admitted several times that I'm not that good and require lots of testing to be up to par, but even that wasn't enough in Winter as I really shat the bed in ways I thought I wasn't capable of. At least now I've learned from my mistakes and got a much better understanding of the game's meta, so hopefully things will be better from now on.

Most of the people who vote won't even be around to watch the cup. As long as accelerator and bert stay I don't really care, though.

A couple starters and too much of the bench are old news. Megumin and muh NTR are probably guaranteed to get in, but I'd like to see Rory and Ein (unless /m/'s already claimed him).

We've had the same medal players forever now, how would you judge that a defense or mid fielder "proved himself" enough to take a medal from, you know, an actual player with better stats?

Also, make Inferno Cop gold and degrade Bert, like it was for autumn.

Also, stats do matter a lot; it'd be very, very hard for a gold medal player to be surpassed by one of the 77ers.
>>
>>138893323
Stats over multiple events, especially when player types and cards constantly, don't mean jackshit they are pure coincidence.
Just because a player has X number of goals as the lead striker for more tourneys doesn't make him better then a new player with identical stat types.
Now actually vote based on reps you want to represent /a/ as a whole and not "muh stats" bullshit.

You'd be surprised, honestly. And inability to make radical changes in the middle of the match is one of my shortcomings as a livemanager, as I was often afraid it'd come crashing down on us. 16 to me felt like a game of Jenga sometimes during Winter.

>Which was a dead rubber. Now, would it even have salvaged a draw against /ck/ or /out/?
With /ck/ probably not since we couldn't submit nightly exports and the 77 striker wasn't gonna do anything substantial against them, we were winning most of the time against all presets with the same two slightly different tactics anyway. With /out/ we were getting insanely good tests (like, 80% wins +25 GD in 10 games on average) against their killer preset 2 with what we had, believe it or not. Then it stopped working the night before and we assumed it was PES being cheeky. It wasn't the case. ;_;

I figured, but there still has to be some truth to it for him to even consider posting that in the first place.

>You'd be surprised, honestly.
>I'm just saying what happened during the cup.
If you're referring to tests, it's still pretty hard to trust them. I'd say it's because good livemanaging can easily make a supposedly shit formation work. You end up testing against that formation and win most of the time. Your opponent knows this so come matchday, they specifically livemanage so as to best counter the formation and setups you're most likely to use, and wreck you. The best ones know what to do regardless of situation (like /fit/'s manager), but this is the bare minimum.

>And inability to make radical changes in the middle of the match is one of my shortcomings as a livemanager, as I was often afraid it'd come crashing down on us.
Well it came crashing down anyway so hopefully you'd have improved on that.

>What board, then?

Both are false.

>If you're referring to tests, it's still pretty hard to trust them
Thing is, PES 15 was a lot, and I mean A LOT more consistent when it came to testing. 16 isn't. Even then, it's better to trust the test results and use them as the foundation for the match's tactics than not.

>Your opponent knows this so come matchday, they specifically livemanage so as to best counter the formation and setups you're most likely to use, and wreck you
This is true for both sides, you know. You test against what they have, they test against what you have, and both employ their best tactics, or at least whatever worked best against a specific formation/set of sliders. It's what we did, and it's what /ck/ & /b/ did, yet you make it sound like we didn't (forgive me if I got you wrong there). Then if something goes wrong, you apply changes based on their current tactics and overall flow of the game.

>Well it came crashing down anyway so hopefully you'd have improved on that.
I try, but there's only so much I can do (and by crashing down, I mean literally getting BTFO, you have no idea how brutal this game can be when it wants to). Then again, I'd never really livemanaged a competitive match before that - everything else was either invitationals where people didn't try as hard (and had to do little anyway), or the /an/ match in Autumn where I was ridiculously burned out and couldn't find something to stop them in time, so I didn't care as much on that one and ONLY that one. We had promoted already and that's what mattered at the time.

>/a/. I've even thought about helping you guys test but I just haven't got the time. Also my laptop keeps sucking.

Oh well.

>16 isn't. Even then, it's better to trust the test results and use them as the foundation for the match's tactics than not.
Of course, since it's not like people have much of a choice in the matter. Doesn't stop tests from being hard to trust.

>You test against what they have, they test against what you have, and both employ their best tactics, or at least whatever worked best against a specific formation/set of sliders.
Wasn't what I was thinking. I'm more than sure everyone who tested did that, including you guys. What I was thinking was: you test against what they have, then you use what they have and test against what you have based on the tactics you would use assuming they don't change their tactics, then find out what works against your own team, set their tactics to that, and then test against that.

Even if it doesn't fully work out, it should help you adapt to your opponents' tactics better so as to increase your chances of winning. Put yourself in your opponent's shoes, understand them and their tactics, and you should get better.

>I try, but there's only so much I can do (and by crashing down, I mean literally getting BTFO, you have no idea how brutal this game can be when it wants to).
I've experienced that kind of shit in a different game before; get burned when you go to the next level. I've seen people who've tested numerous times get rekt many, many times in this cup. Unfortunately, nothing can truly substitute real experience.

>Sorry then. From your first post you sounded like one of the /sp/ crossboarders that always find these threads. My bad.
I doubt most of them here are /sp/ crossboarders to begin with. Considering the nature of this cup, it's only natural for people to enjoy memeing in these threads, regardless of the board.

>Pretty sure he meant "won"
I guess, but that match all but lost whatever significance it had.

>If you're referring to tests, it's still pretty hard to trust them. I'd say it's because good livemanaging can easily make a supposedly shit formation work.
For every game you guys get to watch, there are hundreds of games that the managers have ran (at least the ones that give a shit). Even the /fit/ manager probably lost dozens of games preparing for the tournament. It is rare to find a strong counter to all but the most poorly put-together strategies. And sometimes even when you know you have the optimal game plan for what the opponent is doing, it just doesn't work on match day, and all you can do is react to how the game is behaving that day and hope the momentum swings the other way.

Did we make mistakes? Absolutely. There are things we could have done differently that would have improved the chances of advancing. But I also don't think we fucked up so badly that we had zero chance. It was an extremely tight group; every game was decided by 1 goal except one was by 2 goals.

I rated /out/ highly even before Winter 2016 started which would mean the best /a/ could hope for was second place. I didn't think you guys would definitely make it, especially since Bittenfield had left right after autumn, but losing the first 2 matches was no less disheartening.

>all you can do is react to how the game is behaving that day and hope the momentum swings the other way.
This is true. But I get this feeling that in PES, small changes rarely ever work when you're trailing, and you need significant changes to have any chance of making a comeback. One of the shortcomings listed was the inability to make such changes.

If you're leading though small changes should be fine.

>It was an extremely tight group; every game was decided by 1 goal except one was by 2 goals.
Going by /ck/'s and /out/'s past matches, I'd rather attribute it to them being able to grind out narrow wins where it mattered. /a/ lost much of that factor when Bittenfield left, and /b/ just flopped hard.

Things were hopeful against /ck/, except the back line fucked up.
