This is your huge problem then, cause a lot of this stuff gets addressed later on in a very very casual fashion so that it's seamless. It's one of the few redeeming things about the series, yet since it doesn't bash you over the head with it, coupled with how MTL-tier most of the translations are, people tend to just forget about it. That isn't even counting how much retconning there is or contradictory information which like I said is what you should complain about, cause there's lots.

Plenty of people do, but also remember this, it's a game where NPCs can die permanently. NPCs don't respawn. Even nameless mobs that die, don't come back the same. Like that fucking squirrel over there? It's not the same one as the one you killed 5 minutes ago. Even the early chapters show this with the wolves knowing because their parents or grand parents were hunted down by Weed.
So for most people, it's pretty worthless to invest in NPCs unless the benefits are obvious.

Will fantasy series ever depart from the reincarnation/MMO/NEET bullshit? The reincarnation stuff, probably not because it's a very convenient way to shoehorn in an unaware protagonist that needs everything explained to them for our benefit. If you had a character who was actually from that world, they would already know most/all the relevant background knowledge and the author would really have to bust their ass to worldbuild well enough to get the reader up to speed. Most writers are lazy, so they pick the route of least resistance. Also, everybody loves a "fish out of water" scenario or an underdog story, and reincarnation tends to involve one or both of those.
The MMO shit is probably from the popularity of SAO, which is unfortunate because SAO (and most of what it spawned) doesn't even do it well. It's a cool idea that is abused and misused to the point that it should just be retired for a decade to recover. The NEET/hikkikimori shit is shameless otaku pandering so they can self-insert and pretend they could also be handsome and successful with zero effort someday, and I can't really say that will ever really leave. Anime and manga thrive off of pandering, and lowbrown pandering like that is easy money.

Reincarnation genre could be totally interesting if they just keep away from the whole self insert aspect.
Imagine a story about a game NPC reincarnating into the real world and having to deal with the whole concept of freedom and not being locked to a single vocation/ limited lines of dialogue. It could make for some actual decent character development and plot.
