How big was the shitstorm on /a/ when this happened?

every new episode of code geass was a wild ride

He should have commanded: Be my sex slave. Such an idiot.
Literally the whole board cared
>>138854859
That was possible one of the stupidest moments in all of anime, plotwise.
/a/ peaked when Code Geass was airing. There hasn't been a moment in time that was better
>>138856500
2010-2011 was also good in my opinion
Spring 2013 was a pretty good season as well, and it influenced /a/ in a pretty good way.

What happened 2013?
Klk?
>>138857761
I'm here.
>>138856321
People who say this have never seen enough shows from the 80s and 90s, especially OVAs, with far more stupid moments. At least in this case you could see the result coming from a mile away if you paid any attention. Still silly, but then again the show always was like that and knew it.

Same here, sadly.

I want to drink with the guy that came up with that.
I burst in laughter when this shit happened, it came out of nowhere.
No one really cared they said that it was shit, complained that the story os going to be predicable, and replied that they're only doing this to fuck with what was happening in the series
>>138854859
Literally ragedropped the series for the rest of the first season and felt like shit for several days afterwards. I think Euphemia was developing into my first waifu and that absolute bullshit was just too much.

I was just about to post this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8b-Jqoljpl4
New /a/ has no idea how boring /a/ is now. It's just a bunch of general threads where people say the same 20 things and then remake the thread.
>tfw people say Code Geass airing was the best thing to happen to /a/
>tfw wish I was old enough and not so much of a faggot at the time to post on /a/ to be there for the ride
And now that the archives are destroyed, I'll never be able to see what it was like in all of its unadulterated glory.
>Tfw every single thread for 4 pages was the image of her shooting them
Good times
If this aired today there would be a fuckton of reaction videos on youtube.
There are people on 4chan right now that have never posted without captchas, and don't even know about the incident that caused them.

Geass wasn't even that long ago. I remember the GSD shitstorms, and I remember some threads from when the first FMA anime aired.
Luckily, I think /a/ hasn't turned into a completely cancer board like others here on 4chan (it's possible to at least have discussion about shows / manga) but its definitely getting not as good. Honestly, what I miss was the sense of the entire board watching a show together (even if they never were in the first place). Like, before 2012 shows would crop up and it seemed like everyone on the board was talking about it. Now every show gets one thread. It feels like everyone is more divided.
That by itself isn't terrible, but that gets coupled with the fact that none of these threads really generate OC anymore (I think this is due to the website wide backlash against memes) makes the whole board feel stale.
>>138858696
But you did right anon, because all those shows, except for Geass, are shit.
>Code Geass is 10 years old
What was it like watching Madoka with /a/?
>mfw i should have been on /a/ at 9 years old to not be considere a newfag.
>>138858908
>I think this is due to the website wide backlash against memes
I think the reason why no one allows memes anymore is because it attracts the wrong type of people. If you look at /v/ and see how that place is somewhat overrun with people talking about memes rather than content, I guess that's why people dislike them and discourage them.
But then again I'm a newfag so I don't know what I'm talking about.
>>138858696
Only the first of those is actually worth watching even without /a/, so you lose anon.
>>138858693
>Code Geass is almost 10 years old
>>138858908
OPM hyped /a/ like crazy when the anime was announced and things were so good. Too bad hipsters and shitposters need to falseflag everything and it became cancerous
>>138854859
ANYONE REMEMBERS THE SHITSTORM WHEN /gg/ DROPPED CODE GEASS ?!?!
>>138858942
Fun. There were a lot of arguments about PMMM vs. Infinite Stratos. Episode 10 was legendary. What often gets ignored (and why I think watching Madoka was a billion times better if you watched it while it was airing) is that a huge earthquake hit Japan after episode 10 aired, delaying the final 2 episodes by a month. It was one of the first seasons that I got to experience with /a/ and its really a fond memory of the site.

>>138859365
Really, no memes are actually that funny. Its like when someone in your group of friends makes a funny a joke, and you guys reference the joke in the future. The reference isn't really funny, except the memory of what it is referencing is a funny / fond memory. Memes are basically that reference, except unlike with a group of friends, how many people were actually around for the incident that made it funny? So as communities get larger memes become less of something that feels like everyone got to experience together as a group of friends, and devolves into what is essentially a joke where the only punchline is "I know this reference". Basically I think the internet / memes got to popular for us to enjoy them.

The fact is that normalfags ruin everything.
>>138859622
Well it's the evolution of terminology. People outside of 4chan didn't really talk like that. Now we move onto shit like 'kek', because people outside 4chan still don't use it (I think, anyway. I don't really go anywhere but 4chan).
The insider/outsider dichotomy drives a lot of what 4chan's boards are about.
It's also why it's important to drop memes and lingo like hot fucking rocks when they're picked up by outsiders. More difficult today though since shit gets picked up so fast that you see it being posted here by outsiders as if they are bringing it here. Or rather, bringing outsider variants here.
Which just makes it more important to hold nothing sacred but the distain of outsiders, even if it's just to get outsiders to also pretend to hate outsiders.
>>138859713
/a/ always had naruto threads. It's tolerance of naruto threads that killed /a/. It's having them accepted, even reluctantly.
Not only are there big three threads, there are big three GENERALS.
That's unfathomable.

>Which just makes it more important to hold nothing sacred but the distain of outsiders, even if it's just to get outsiders to also pretend to hate outsiders.
The funny thing about /pol/ and /r9k/ is that they seem to make a conscious effort to make memes too toxic for outsiders to use, like the attempts of tumblr to co-opt Pepe and the subsequent flood of poop related pepes and /pol/'s association of pepe with Trump.

With Berserk I think Miura is fully capable of finishing the story within his life time. It seems likes the story is heading towards a conclusion, no matter how slowly.
But Togashi has something like 3 or 4 more arcs planned? The pace he is setting along with the fact that I think he is in poorer health makes me pretty much fully confident that there will never be an end to HxH. I think he is literally going to die in the middle of some arc. It's pretty hopeless feeling.
I wonder if its similar to what fans of Zero no Tsukaima felt.

Honestly that's one of the four main reasons I think the site's quality has degraded.
The other three are the loss of content creators which every board has suffered from, the adoption of a universal us vs them mentality which has caused every poster to assume every other poster is a new fag or sitosterol regardless of the discussion topic, and 'generals' taking over on every board.
The last of which is the worst since it stifles creativity and only serves to segment the user base, dividing it and leading to a greater adoption of the us vs them shot that already poisoned it.
>>138859081

>>138862616
You know the reason quality degraded after /pol/ came back is not because of /pol/ right? If you ever looked at /q/ or /qa/ you'd realise there has been a long shitposting war against the board by tumblrtards for a long time
They have been falseflagging for fucking ever trying to get the board deleted. Making /pol/ look like its flooding the site when it actually isn't
Why would /pol/ users be interested in talking to people who don't follow any world events and therefore don't understand the trends we see all the time?
>>138862600
That's because 2007 is the cutoff. And Code Geass was shit. The weekly threads were just a retarded attempt to emulate the actual TTGL shitstorms that happened because people thought that was the normal way to post and not the exception.
The amount of traffic coming to 4chan exploded in 2007 in a way that was impossible to properly assimilate them. In /a/ specifically there was an influx of shitty posters because of a direct pipeline from websites like narutofan and gaia.
It's good that we get new posters to keep things fresh. It was bad that they came all at once.

We don't have archives from 2008-2009, do we?
And we're missing a span of years between 2010 and 2015, too.
>>138859076
It's the fucking millennium flip that causes this shit. Every single person I've talked to act like 2000-2010 lasted a couple years instead of 10 and don't realize it. I had to repeatedly remind my parents that the new car they bought in 2001 was 15 fucking years old when they were trying to sell it because they were asking a retarded price for it.
>>138858696
Valvrave was shit trying trying to be another Code Geass but not really capturing it.
Cross Ange...I know little about it, honestly.
>>138862919
No, it really was 2007. You used to be able to check the data pretty easily when Alexa was still free. Things went crazy during summer 2007.
Even without Alexa it's obvious when you look at the large number of people that remember shitposting about CG but how relatively few were around for ttgl. Meanwhile, almost no one here even remembers what things were like when Haruhi was airing.
2008 is definitively 'new' and 2007 is borderline.
>>138862712
/pol/ likes to force their shitposting memes outside the board
Luckily /a/ knows to not to respond to obvious shit, but that isnt the case for other boards
Pic related is pure cancer and not even funny. I had to leave two boards because I got sick of seeing this shit and other dumbasses getting triggered by it and showing it. Spoiler because it can actually derail the thread if the right person responds to it.
>>138859775
You sure love talking out of your ass.
I still have this from '07.
I still remember people screaming "40% budget into this episode" and shit. (Was it 40% or another number? I forgot already)
Geass was the shit as well.
When it was fun, it was fun. Let people have it.
People now tend to try to downplay everyone's fun. I don't understand why. It boggles me.
>>138863074
>/pol/ likes to force their shitposting memes outside the board
/pol/ doesn't leave its board
are you this fucking dumb? we've had people fucking admit on /qa/ that they are shitposting /pol/ content to get the board hated
>>138863081
And you love being wrong. We all have our talents.
4chan from like pre-2012 era is pretty much the way Reddit talks now
And i'm sure in 2020 we'll look back on 2015 as reddit-tier also
>March 2016
>Still no archive
Where is foolz, daiz, etc?
>>138863169
Archives are a huge part of why 4chan is shit now, fuck them
>>138863074
Stop trying, /pol/ don't give a fuck about the others boards. It's the newfags and the redditors falseflagging who does that.
>>138863169
what is desustorage?
>>138859305
good man, s2 was nothing but sunrise trolling, it was shit beyond redemption
>>138863151
You really have no idea what you are talking about, it's odd you can't see how obvious it is.
>>138863133
It was forced on a show that did not deserve it by people that didn't know better. Geass was a very mediocre show that got attention because of a surge of inexperienced posters.
>>138863043
Well 2007 was the van incident so yeah I'll concede to you that one. Things went crazy in here after that one.
2008 can't be called new now though. Even in 2006 this place had so few posters. Didn't even reach a million posts. I'd say 2011? 2012?

Aku no Hana was terrible.

>Geass was a very mediocre show that got attention because of a surge of inexperienced posters.
Everyone knew this during that time. It's not like people were hiding it. It was just fun in its own way.
>>138863248
>OPM was cancer from the start b-but we all know if it was around a few years its suddenly good!
Please, fuck off with your idiocy, I've spent my entire adolescence and adulthood on 4chan. 10 fucking years and stupid 14 year old cunts are still pretending I'm new because they have no arguments they can actually win.
>>138858029
what happened to /con/?
>>138863331

You keep talking like that and you'll have trouble convincing anyone that things have changed

Are we talking about american hiroshima?
>>138863237
It's a naming convention, not some kind of title you earn. Think of it more like golden age vs silver age comics, a separation of eras.
If I'm remembering correctly the traffic almost went up tenfold from 2006 to 2008. I can't imagine what fraction of a percent those guys make up now and assimilation would have been impossible.
>>138863314
It wasn't fun, it was tiring. The novelty was only there for new posters. If you say they knew it wasn't a good show it definitely was not obvious at the time.
>>138858696
>shitty crown
me too, I think /a/ is the only one that could make that show enjoyable.
>>138863407
And I have trouble reading angry
Code Geass was complete garbage, especially the second season. I hope you all realize that even if you did enjoy it.
>>138863463
Don't be so stupid and I won't be so angry
What's your favorite tripfag, /a/?
>>138858942

>If I'm remembering correctly the traffic almost went up tenfold from 2006 to 2008.
You're not wrong there.
>If you say they knew it wasn't a good show it definitely was not obvious at the time.
Really? I remember it being quite obvious.
Maybe because when the real episodes mattered, it eclipsed the part where people were saying shitty things about it.
I'll still say though, even shitty the shows people watch that became popular, it was fun when watching it with /a/.
>>138863546
OPM isn't fun, it's literally the type of trashy manga I used to read back when I was excited for Naruto and Bleach every week. The fact it repeats the same joke over and over and is the same thing its supposed to be parodying makes it terrible
I love fun things but I'm long done with that kind of thing. Seen it before, lots of times. It's hard being an adult and seeing copies of the same things but new and watching kids shit themselves over them because they didn't see the original
>>138863334
Died soon after.
Then some time before moot left us for the botnet he brought it back and killed it again.
>>138859366
Too bad it's literally impossible to do that know. RIP Yoshinoya sensei.
>>138863609
>eclipsed
you chose the words that would hurt me the most, didn't you?
S;G with /a/ was a ton of fun. Actually 2011 was an incredibly fun year here. I haven't really felt anything on that level since then.
>>138863609
/a/ used to be slow enough to still have threads about bad shows without forcing them. The Geass drama each week was a drummed up excuse to go wild with low quality shitposting.
You just resonate more with a part of that new event-centric homogeneity that came during 2007.
Star Driver Sundays were fun
>>138863708
early 2013 was loads of fun, too..but yeah
Will something like this happen again? The whole board uniting and ENJOYING anime?
>>138863716
>You just resonate more with a part of that new event-centric homogeneity that came during 2007.
I came here at around late 2006, but I understand what you mean. The event threads tend to stick to my memory more because of, well yeah, it felt like an event.
You're right, I wasn't here that much that time because it was slow, and when you come back, you'll still see the same threads. But when a whole lot of people suddenly surged in, it started getting chaotic.

The exploding van incident. Just type in google "4chan van exploding".
>>138858539
The inevitable Rance anime when Alicesoft really need the cash
>>138859420
I love banter and all but cuck's starting to get stale. Hopefully something nicer starts getting used.
>>138859224
Ace Attorney might be fun. Boku no Hero defiantly will be
>>138863994
That's because cuck was never 'banter', just random shouting directed at things you don't like but can't be bothered to explain things properly.
>>138859855
Oh lord I remember this.
Fucking hell I'm still mad
>>138863994
I like it. It's a nice general purpose word that gets it point across and is a good substitute for fuck. Who cares if it was a /pol/ and /v/ meme?
>>138860345
>did you mean "bane" ?
>>138861686
>Could have picked up Cross Ange
>Chose not to
>Turned out is was a wild ride
>Now vary that I am missing out and don't know what to pick up anymore
What a horrid hobby.
>>138863334
It was only ever open around convention time and eventually moot stopped giving a fuck
>>138862712
The tumblr boogeyman only bacame a thing during gamer gate. Before then no one would accuse anyone from being from there, at all. Now it's all people do & the ones who do accuse people are outing themselves as newfags.
/pol/ has always been a problem though.
>>138860345
ofcourse
>>138862823
Another newfag or /pol/tard. This is why you got a containment board in the first place.
>>138863145
A lot of /pol/ is on a/ though.
>>138864535
I think the one who's outing himself as a newfag is you.
Was anyone here for the Geass stream after Moot left?
That was some oldschool magic
>>138862578
moot wanted to turn this place into Animesuki when he divided /a/ from /jp/
>>138864603
>Been here since Code Geass shitstorm & on 4chan since before that
Yeah, no newfag.
>>138862946
The 2000's were pretty dull though when you really think about it the 10's so far have not been much better.
>>138864653
Well, he's now an adult who has to work and earn money.
For me this was a great moment. I didn't like Euphemia at first, she was really annoying, like she was trying to do more than she was capable of, she was just given the power because of royal family and stuff, but the geass activating on her by accident resulting in all that was fucking glorious. Not that I enjoyed it because I didn't enjoy her character, rather, I started enjoying her character after it. It was great to see her trying to fullfill the command but also struggling to keep it down.
Code Geass is truly great.
