A bad adaptation and a bad anime, also a bad general
>>

The General seems like a decent guy, I've never seen novelfags complain (only manga fags, and that mostly subjective design bitching), and it's a solid 7/10 anime with NIPPON FUCK YEAH moments. Edgelords gotta edge, though.

What happened to Pina? She gets thrown into jail with shitty clothing and she starts acting like child. She wasn't being tortured or raped. Did the director decide to make her go full retard in order to create tension for the viewers?
>>
>>138857923
That's because Kuri wanted to ride Tomita first, not because of some devotion to discipline.
>>
>>138857865
Episode 5 or 6, Bozes about to attempt to give away her valuable noble ass to Itami (who is 'small' in terms of not being a noble in any way) so he won't tell his superiors about how he was treated, because they don't yet get that the Japanese don't give a fuck.
>>
>>138858030
She just listened to several hours of obvious green man combat which did not result in her rescue.
>>
>>138858035
>That's because Kuri wanted to ride Tomita first, not because of some devotion to discipline.

I mean Kuri walks all over Itami despite being superior, ignoring orders and protocol, charging into the enemies, despite orders. Because she knows Itami wont even entertain the idea of putting her on the brig at least.

I mean she even kicked Itami in the first season.

The director of this show, or the script writer, screwed up.
Quite simply, it is customary for important people to be put under house arrest, or otherwise be put in relatively benign surroundings, instead of being treated like a commoner in a dungeon. Dungeon treatment is reserved for when they are stripped of their rank and are about to be killed. Pina was not considered a traitor and as such in both the manga and the novels, was merely not allowed to leave her home. It was important that Nobles and Royals are treated as superior people, even when under investigation. That's how social order and class system is maintained.

Someone in the anime studio screwed up, and messed up this important detail.
>>
I want to see a doujin of Kuri consensually gangbanged by every man in the recon team except Itami.
>>
>>138858358
In fact, one of the reasons the nobles who were released from Japan was ANGRY and wanted to have revenge on Japan, was that they were incarcerated in the same place as commoners and even orcs, forced to live and eat with the lower classes.
>>

They aren't on. It's canon that the Rose Knights can't fuck dudes until they get politically married, so they lez out to satisfy their sexual urges. Bozes is the closest to Pina politically and in terms of nobility, so they regularly scissor each other.
>>
>>138858420
>is the manga even up to that part? isn't the current chapter still stuck in the previous arc
The novels showed Pina under house arrest, and even had an illustration drawn. I expect the manga to do the same.

>>
>>138858778
>What are you talking about? All the nobility we saw come out of the the prison still had their nice clothes and jewelry.
The manga specifically had the Nobles saying they were angry at being treated the same as the common soldiers, and they directly said this was why they are agreeing to help fight in the war.
>>
>>138858998
>Someone spoil me. What is Tyuule's plan?
Basically to have the Empire fight to the death, like Japan was planning to do in WW2.

mostly because of the batteries.
you need room for day and night scopes each out to about 10km on top of the actual pulsed laser being tracked by the munition. the night scope and the laser will need space devoted to cooling.

modern systems will also squeeze a bunch of computing in there to handle the handoff of targetting data to the dudes sending munitions, over various comm data links with size constraints from other applications.

they are still man-portable for a given mission duration, weight being the price for battery life. it helps that the spotting hardware and the designating laser are split up like that, easier to handle both than one more integrated but bulkier and less tolerant of future imaging developments.

You can get smaller but you lose datalink, native GPS and effective range due to loss of the night scope,. SOFLAM can hook up to external datalinks and you can strap a starlight scope to it but that's more stuff to carry and power separately. Also, there's the non-trivial operator requirement as you decrease effective range.

Fireman's carry requires too much anatomy knowledge to portray accurately. I don't think the design on their armor can support viewing from the necessary angles.

Feels like they could have gotten the same job done for far less cost and effort, with less chance of bad weather fucking everything up, and giving the enemy less advance warning before boots arrive on the ground, if they had used helicopters to insert their troops.

So after half a year of seeing GATE threads, I finally caved and decided to try the manga. The manga has had surprisingly good pacing with even the stupid onsen scene having a part in the story, and the military vehicles and weapons look fucking great. The fantasy parts are great as well, and the demihuman designs range from "fucking awesome" to "muh dick", and I really wish they would have just focused on the modern military juxtaposed to the fantasy setting, rather than trying to shoehorn half assed propoganda and half remembered international politics in. I'm on chapter 52 now, and I just don't think I can keep going.

>mangaka has no fucking idea how international politics works
>for some reason he thinks Japan wouldn't just imperialize the whole Special Region the moment the enormous disparity in military ability was seen
>this page, and it's whole section
>America, Russia, and China straight giving up on controlling the Special Region
>America didn't at least force some "advisers" into the Special Region from the get go
>the military letting a dude go AWOL with some locals with no serious consequences
>none of the Japanese soldiers frequent the lusty, practically begging demihuman prostitutes in the capital
>a midget woman with just a bayonet on her rifle fought and killed several grown men with shields and swords that trained with them since childhood

Chill out, anon. You already know this show was written by a far-righted national extremist JSDF reservist (probably a fascist sympathizer too, considering the way he thought about his country), right? I bet he originally wrote this stuff a way to mentally masturbate for himself and his buddies, then it became popular and got an anime adaption, since the Japs agreed with his view, too.

>a midget woman with just a bayonet on her rifle fought and killed several grown men with shields and swords that trained with them since childhood
Yeah this shit triggered me, she wasn't just fighting any soldiers she was fighting the equivalent of Roman palatinae in close quarters with what amounts to a VERY short spear. I don't expect them to survive rifle fire (but you'd expect them to start throwing down shields, scattering or approaching zig-zag after the first few shots made them realize that whatever the black magic rod is it ignores shields and armor and is very goddamn fast), but she should've gotten taken the fuck apart against those guys in close quarters.
also where the fuck are their javelins and slingers? ancient empires weren't made of nothing but heavy cav and heavy infantry

They didn't bring much of anything with them. They also had no air support. It seems like they want to hammer home the idea that JSDF is forced to do things on the cheap because bureaucratic bullshit.

And cavalry charges clearly weren't a concern, otherwise they would climb up the trees first before ambushing.

>>
>>138870012
Well of course I know that, it's just a shame because there are a lot of parts of the manga (and presumably the anime too, I haven't watched it) that are actually really good. Like I said, the pacing especially is excellent because the series has managed more plot development and characterization in fifty odd chapters than most series manage in twice that many chapters even in other LN adaptations. I think the BS neofascist muh nippon wankery is so annoying to me because the series had the opportunity to be a truly great one, and instead devolved into said wankery.

>>138870148
Right? These guys were the fucking cream of the crop and heavily trained and armored for close combat, yet they were complete buffoons that let this tiny ass woman walk right up past their guard and cut their throat. I could have got her killing one, barely, before opening up with her rifle, but for some reason she doesn't even start off with shooting. She actively engages multiple men in close combat before using her rifle for actually shooting. It made no god damn sense to eliminate the one advantage a small, weaker woman would have over a group of heavily armed men. I don't mind fantasy like women being able to beat men in close combat (like Rory fucking three spec ops teams by herself), but if you're trying to push a "realistic" scenario in terms of the combat abilities of the soldiers, having something so unbelievable really ruins the suspension of disbelief.

>>138870166

>>
>>138870524
>one at a time
And she should have been massacred in close combat, a few years of training with melee as a secondary concern does not make you superior to an ancient soldier who did nothing but melee with superior melee equipment and probably has been practicing for way longer, the Empire's everyone was hilariously incompetent and it makes no sense.
>got in formation
Again makes no sense, you don't use shieldwalls against a single opponent, formation fighting is for taking on enemy formations especially in the face of missile fire - which she hadn't demonstrated.
>>138870698
It has nothing to do with them being fuckhuge dudes and her being a girl - it has everything to do with them specifically being chosen for their ability in close quarters combat while no soldier today (except for some specialists, I guess?) could possibly 'main' close combat. Well, my focus wasn't really that she was a woman, but her being a woman definitely has something to do with it. At her size, there's no way she could compare to larger man, regardless of if she had the same training and equipment as they did. That's just straight up biological differences. When you add in the equipment and disparity in training though, it becomes downright comical, especially since she decided to eliminate the advantage of her firearm by closing the distance to hand to hand combat.

A 'badge' in CQC proficiency today means, at best, she was on par with those guys, who had better armor and more importantly a better weapon. Bayonets are horrendously shit close quarters weapons that are only used because actually carrying a sword around is worthless today.
Remember these people do nothing BUT train in CQC and would've been doing so for many years if they're trusted with guarding the crown prince, I'd say that a simple badge in CQC shouldn't mean shit to them but I'll pretend it means she's equal, equipment is still a massive issue and no she's not 'more mobile', those guys were in a breastplate / gauntlet combo and cone helm and would've been trained to make the most of it. None of them even used their shields - surprise surprise, shields excel at blocking stabbing motions and are very good at obstructing vision and bashing, both fundamental ancient combat strategies.

Cut off their supplies by fucking up the gate, they're near a forest or something so we can build a ballista or something there, after the supplies are fucked we burn everything nearby to the ground. Basically you're dealing with an expedition, the first step is to cut off their supply route since as a military force they have no way of actually feeding themselves besides foraging.
>>
>>138871759
Yeah, I feel the same. After the first open engagement, an Empire with as much military experience as they are insinuated to have had would change tactics, even if their previous ones had worked well in the past. It would be a lot more interesting to see the (not)Romans making the best use of their complete technological disparity by using different tactics. Ambushes in tight quarters to eliminate the range advantage, pit traps on the roads to get the vehicles the Japs use, artillery (where the hell are the trebuchets and the like?) to damage and destroy the lighter vehicles and immobilize the heavier ones, spreading out formations to make the japs use more ammunition and to minimize collateral damage from explosions, ditching most armor and shields since they are useless against firearms, etc. I know the series is meant to just be nip wanking, but it would be more effective nip wanking if it wasn't Japan genociding a bunch of functional retards with swords.

Things is, commanders rarely respond to changing military threats, at least, not fast enough. In civil war, for example, battles was still conducted in tight line formation, with guys standing and shooting each other and waiting to be shoot at, despite advances in contemporary weaponry (rifled muskets, breech-loading cannons, repeating carbines/pistols and even gatling gun). Most of the time, it's not about the competency of the guys at front line, but the commanders at the back

Even fucking chimps use this tactic to get other chimps. The author can't really expect me to think that nobody thought to ambush the japs in the city alleys at least.

>They had brimstone pits back in the ancient world, would've basically exploded trucks.

Even better. I figured pit traps were just an easy way to immobilize a vehicle on top of fucking up an entire convoy and rendering a road useless for a couple of days, but making them explode is even better. But I was operating off the assumption that the Empire could only handle the most basic of tactics, and I figured "digging a hole and covering it with stuff" was simple enough for their leadership to think of. Even just pushing some boulders in the road would slow down the convoy severely if the road was the only passable route.

Ancient siege weapons don't have the range for a surprise attack, so they'd have to be build up or moved close enough to their target, which would give Japan all the time in the world to use their superior ranged weapons to wipe them out before they even get in firing range.

Well, not on an open field but smaller versions could presumably be set up in some hidden location (underbrush or something) to wreck some havoc
The way to fight against an unstoppable powerful army is to slowly hack at them and wear them down.

The REAL question is why the Empra decided to attack first without getting info on their military forces, since the civilian-spam obviously wasn't their military and a basic amount of common sense should've told them that a nation this (relative to the Empire) prosperous and this architecturally capable could not possibly have a weak military.
>>

How much knowledge of the Japanese do I have?

In any case, you would know the JSDF are trying to protect civilians. Use guerrilla warfare, hide your soldiers among the civilian population. You need to have the civilians on your side too, which might be difficult given how much of dicks the empire has supposedly been.

You would also have to somehow close or reduce the gap that JSDF has as a result of possessing vastly superior technology, either by stealing their weapons somehow and examining how they work or use alternatives like magic, preferably both. Magic is a bit iffy since it's not clear how good it is, but it could be enough to gain a fighting chance against the common infantry.

See, they should've made this guy the emperor.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elagabalus

>The Augustan History claims that he also married a man named Zoticus, an athlete from Smyrna, in a public ceremony at Rome. Cassius Dio reported that Elagabalus would paint his eyes, epilate his hair and wear wigs before prostituting himself in taverns, brothels, and even in the imperial palace:

>Finally, he set aside a room in the palace and there committed his indecencies, always standing nude at the door of the room, as the harlots do, and shaking the curtain which hung from gold rings, while in a soft and melting voice he solicited the passers-by. There were, of course, men who had been specially instructed to play their part. For, as in other matters, so in this business, too, he had numerous agents who sought out those who could best please him by their foulness. He would collect money from his patrons and give himself airs over his gains; he would also dispute with his associates in this shameful occupation, claiming that he had more lovers than they and took in more money.

>Herodian commented that Elagabalus enhanced his natural good looks by the regular application of cosmetics. He was described as having been "delighted to be called the mistress, the wife, the queen of Hierocles" and was reported to have offered vast sums of money to any physician who could equip him with female genitalia.

The japs are too stronk and overpowered, outsmarted, and outmaneuvered the three most powerful nations on the planet. If the author had any intention of having other countries interrupt the jap wank fest then they would have done so by now.

I have a question

Why does everyone call Diavolo a 'Coward'?

He's like the one smart person in all of the Empire. He fucking knew his days were numbered when his brother took the throne, so he gtfo.

PINA is the real coward idiot for knowing that her brother was insane but staying there anyway. Can you imagine what Zorzal would have done to Diavolo if he knew he was alive? I'm sure death would have been the least of his problems if Zorzal found that there was another possible heir to the throne wandering about. All Pina has to worry about is being stuck in a box.

Diavolo did nothing wrong and is actually a very intelligent tactician.

To us, we know even from in-comic that they wanted to move a billion people there.

He didn't, to him they were just another country that was much bigger than Japan that had a lot of terrifying military equipment.

When your options are to run from Empire the rest of your life or team up to take back your empire, he made the best decision.

Ideally the smart thing to do would be to go back and ask help from the JSDF because they already had a presence there and all the military hardware he would ever want.

Why he decided to solicit people who weren't even on his planet is beyond me.
