It was hilarious and much more in line with what the show is trying to achieve. They could have actually shown us what they were like but that would have been the easy way out.
I personally think that showing a school episode would do more harm than good at this stage, since like Touhou there's an element of ambiguity around what brought the Matsus from the Osomatsu-kun era to what they're like now. The change obviously happened in high school, a lot of people are filling in those blanks and to undo that probably wouldn't be a wise decision, marketing-wise.

I preferred what we got because the Matsus aren't badasses and it is difficult to imagine them wreaking genuine havoc without it backfiring spectacularly. The art where they're looming menacingly is nice and all but in reality they're wimps who'd run off with their tails between their legs at the first sign of conflict. Good AUs were Sanematsu, first Girlymatsu skit, and Nagomi. Delinquents is debatable. Bad AUs were the period drama (shouldn't have been so aimless, should have had an episode-long thing like what Osomatsu-kun often does), interview (painfully forced, using Juice the wrong way), rest of the Girlymatsus (stopped being funny after the first time), Choromatsu Sensei (completely pointless, didn't even get a SZS reference), Mad Max (went on for far too long) and North.

It's a web game/now mobage that feature actual japanese swords (as in they were present in historical acts) as male characters and they have some great designs in comparison with KanColle where it's 95% little girls in mini-skirts.
It's a shitty grindy game but the designs and fanworks are good, and there's plenty of comedy in side material but who knows if the anime can go that way since lots of swords have m-muh tragic past.
In short, it was the hottest thing with females until the matsus came, and it's still hot as fuck but when Osomatsu ends there's a heavy chance they could announce an anime adaptation and it'll become even bigger.
