I wouldn't call it "great".
It was enjoyable enough to watch all the way through, but it certainly wasn't worth watching again.

It's not a great movie by any means, especially considering it's a rehash of Bokura no War Game.
It's decent/average, hardly better than that.

Glad I'm not the only one who was confused by its popularity and scores then.

It was certainly a fun film to watch with a decent feel good factor but was pretty cringe worthy at times for multiple reasons.

Anybody know any really good, deep anime films? Or just ones that you think are 'better' in the areas I've mentioned.

The animation in redline and garden of words was amazing and I find the most Ghibli films are quite deep and have better story telling.

I think part of the problem with this is that you never really get to know what the characters are like.

By that I mean that usually we have a build-up where the main characters life/etc is shown to the viewer so we can relate to them and why we should want them to win/succeed/etc. In this that doesn't happen.

I remember watching ghost in the shell but have pretty poor memory of it desu. Maybe I should give it another shot.
