Rurouni Kenshin thread since we haven't had one in a while.
Favorite arc?
Would you like to see the series readapted completely?
Who is better, Shishio or Enishi?
Do any of you guys like Watasuki's other works such as Busou Renkin?
>>
Damn does this series get no love anymore?
>>
I remember the manga fondly. Shishio has a better design and underling, Enishi has a better story and fight
>>
>>138796194
The series ended well over twenty years ago, did it not? Are you going to complain that Yu Yu Hakusho, and Gash Bell don't get daily threads?
>>
>>138794716
i tried rewatching it and it was the cringiest thing ive ever seen, im not even sure what i liked about it a long time ago

>Favourite arc?
Jinchuu

>Would you like to see the series readapted completely?
I dunno. No modern remake could ever live up the the original anime's god-tier soundtrack. But a Jinchuu arc animated by Madhouse would be pretty great

>Who is better, Shishio or Enishi?
I like Enishi more

>Do any of you guys like Watasuki's other works such as Busou Renkin?
Gun Blaze West was OK. Haven't seen any other work.

Just hate time passing I guess. All the shows/manga we love now are just gonna fade into obscurity eventually. I'd rather have more threads of a more diverse selection of anime and manga instead of 20 shitposts of the latest Boku Dake episode. /blog
>>
>>138796194
I've actually been surprised at the amount of threads I've seen of it the past few months.
>>
>>138796443
Eh you don't have to like everything you watch. I'm gonna admit the first third of the series was just small arcs of character build up so it wasn't all that interesting. However the series got good once the Kyoto arc started and went into the even better Jinchuu arc.
>>
>>138796529
One of the better moments of the manga.

I don't have any strong feelings on it myself like some do, but I do have to wonder what would have happened if the author kept Kaoru dead
>>
>>138796544
Really? I remember a couple of Shishio vs Enishi threads back in fall but I haven't seen any in 2016 so far other than that shitposting one a couple days ago.
>>
>>138796443
In what way was it cringey?
>>
>>138796620
It would have been stronger writing, but you can't have that in WSJ I guess. Losing his woman twice? Shit man
>>
>>138796529
In fairness the latest Boku Dake episode was basically baiting this level of fan reaction

Even the anime original arc about Knights was better than that crap

A lot of the fans already flipped shit and sent him hate mail over the "death". If he actually killed her he might have gotten axed.

Good for you m8.
>>
>>138796671
I found it much more entertaining then the Kyoto arc. The Kyoto arc had a lot of wasted potential in my book. Watasuki hyped up the Juppon Gatana only for 1 of them to get arrested in the beginning, 2 of them not even fighting at all, and the rest jobbing hard. And then he hyped up the secret battle ship Shishio had only for it to be destroyed the very next chapter by a couple of hand grenades. While Shishio was great, Enishi was much more interesting and had a cooler fighting style; and HIS comrades were also more interesting.

I do remember seeing threads this year, though most of them were all about Shishio.

>>
>>138796805
aw come on, Seta Sojiro was cool
>>
>>138794716
I always wanted Watsuki to write another arc about Soujiro, even if it was with Yahiko or Kenshin's-son-whose-name-I-forgot.
>>
>>138796653
>>138796842
There was an Enishi vs Shishio thread asking which character was edgier around a month ago. It got to over 600 posts I think.
>>
>>138796917
Yea I remember that. Wonder why that one blew up as it did.
>>
>>138796883
Yeah he was. Probably the most interesting of the bunch. One thing that bugged me though was why was Yumi part of the Juppon Gatana when she can't fight?
>>
>>138796661
Mostly I wonder what would've gotten Kenshin from this >>138796529 to this >>138794716 if Kaoru's death hadn't been made into just a ruse
>>
>>138796826
Here you go
>>
>>138797136
Probably just him realizing that Enishi is an evil that must be punished or some shit like that.
>>
>>138797136
Didn't he get out of his depression before realizing that Kaoru was still alive?
>>
>>138797081
Good question. I always liked to think she handled the social-fu parts of Shishio's business. If he needs someone assassinated he sends in Sojiro or the other swords, but if the job calls for a more delicate touch or some talent with diplomacy then he sends in the retired geisha. But Yumi herself said she couldn't do anything to help until she died.
>>
>>138797264
Shit, maybe I should reread it.
>>
>>138797264
Oh you're right he did. I don't think he knew until he overheard it from Yahiko while he was healing
>>
>>138797158
thanks, anon
>>
>>138796883
Yeah, but he was pretty much the only interesting villain of the arc, although Anji was up there too, I guess. I liked both of them more than Shishio, who I thought was carried through the arc by hype alone.
>>
>>138797264
Oh you're right he did. I don't think he knew until he overheard it from Yahiko while he was healing
>>
>>138797526
No problem, thanks for participating in my thread.
>>
>>138797565
Yea Shishio never really had any depth, he just kept spouting his ideals left and right. However his fight against Kenshin and his group was great.
>>
>>138797362
When she was introduced in the Juppon Gatana as "Yumi of the Night", I thought she would be a stealthy assassin or some sort. Now I guess that name means she was just a prostitute.
>>
>>138797686
I dunno, I liked the part when Sano sank his battleship and instead of murdering his underlings for failing him he blames himself for not planning enough contingencies. That's at least a little more complexity than your average would-be warlord.
>>
>>138797264
He got over it before figuring out that she's alive. Tomo's father did that.
>>
>>138797873
Yea you're right. I just wish the battleship got used in some way.
>>
>>138796805
I think Kyoto had better sub-antagonists, but Jinchu had a better main antagonist. It kind of balances out.
>>
>>138797749
She's a high class prostitute and an educated one at that.
>>
>>138798243
Too bad her backstory was only elaborated in two pages
>>
>>138798115
Kyoto had too many sub antagonists and Watasuki didn't really flesh them out or hype them up as much. They all got one fight then were out. I would've preferred a group of 5 that had more screen time and had back stories.
>>
>>138798299
I think the Shishio side manga explained more.
>>
>>138798360
The best of Shishio's men was definitely Soujirou.
>>
>>138798389
Was that ever translated?
>>
>>138798464
He was the most interesting and had the best fight out of the JG.
>>
How do you guys feel about the anime? I thought it was well directed and will be hard to beat if this series ever gets readapted by a new studio.
>>
>>138798490
It was. Enishi makes a cameo selling the battleship to Shishio.
>>
Jinchuu Arc is best arc.

I've seen it story-timed on /a/ twice, that's the only time I've read it. It only got released by Viz so I don't think there are any english scans other than what got ripped from the official translation.

After re-reading the manga Soujiro, Misao and Tomoe are best girls.

Kaoru should have been the first wife and Tomoe should have lived.

>Tomoe 18

If only he was a little shorter.

after kyoto everything went to shit and kenshin's slowly pieced together past was the single greatest thing it had gonig for it. of which trust & betrayal did a better job explaining than the manga did. chingchong lennon a shit.

>In what way was it cringey?
Mostly in the way shonen nonsense like this is played straight. The baddie is talking out of a phrase book and has 'Stage one miniboss' written all over him. With moments like a Gatling Gun missing "on purpose" and the cringey Sumo comedy I can't consider it a good series except for the Tsuiokuhn OVA.
>>
>>138808527
>With moments like a Gatling Gun missing "on purpose"
Shoulda read the manga, where Kanryu never gets a shot off on Kenshin because he wasted it all on the others.
>>

As if there was ever any doubt.
