People constantly hyped it up. The more popular things are, the more likely people will try to find the faults in the story or over rate it. In Helck, it is simple like Berserk being another dark fantasy (kinda). It follows a story structure that paces itself nicely while giving some life into the characters personalities. It makes its worldbuilding elements as we see the adventures of Anne and Helck while the plot thickens as more and more foreshadowing as well as the past being put into play. Helck has a theme of an ironic tragedy of a human hero forced to end humanity which he is supposed to protect as we continue to find out more of what is wrong with the world and the characters that are being put into play.

decent series if you don't mind generic art in action manga, but there is just something about generic looking art in manga that turns me off. It doesn't matter what type of manga it is, if it has low effort artwork then I just can't bring myself to read it.
That said I've caught up with helck up to chapter 63 and have to say it's pretty damn mediocre

I think it's a good manga.
The only bad thing about it is that some of the fanbase on /a/ are trying to keep the threads artificially alive by posting variations of the "you told me this would be funny gag manga" meme in form of pictures or short comments over and over again, in the hopes of keeping up a circlejerk alive.
No idea why, though. 300 posts of rather good quality discussion where people praise the manga, speculate a little bit about the world, what possible direction the manga could take take to, thanking the translatorfag Rello for his work and such ought to be considered a success.
But for whatever reason, many seem to have conditioned themselves to try to make the threads about stuff they like on /a/ to... reach... the... fuk-... kin... bum-... -mmp... li-... mit... at... a-... ny... cost... one... post... e-... very... hour...
It's as if having 500 posts at minimum is a must.
That's such an unhealthy behavior. And it's sad to see some Helck fans attempt to do such a thing too.

I read the first twenty chapters back when only thirty chapters were translated, and it didn't really impress me. I'll go back at some point and read the rest, but I hope it picks up from where I left off.

Sometimes that is not the case, where people may not notice certain elements in the story that builds upon itself beforehand and not pay attention to how it makes the climax all the more greater than short-lived excitement.

It's just the usual thing, it is an average manga that has a small dedication, then it gets slightly more popular on a small curve until the anime gets announced, after that it only gets worse. Lately the story had been a little stale though.

It starts off as an easy going fantasy series, a parody of the usual tropes even.
Then it does the PLOT TWIST or REVEAL and sorta flips it on its head. And /a/ sure loves this sort of thing.
