In 1978, during the initial broadcast of Future Boy Conan Hayao Miyazaki struggled with two different problems. Firstly a sudden surge in popularity as people started to notice him for his work on the anime, and secondly the first outbreak of his hayfever. As his sneezes became more and more frequent, he jokingly suggested that there was a causation between them and his fame.
Other studio members would mockingly ask him if he'd gained a new fan whenever he sneezed that Summer.
