The lovecraft bit was the icing, rather than the actual cake. It's not anything you haven't seen a million times before or since.
That doesn't mean it was bad, it's just that it's so utterly basic and didn't even try to live up to its heritage.

Lovecraft didn't hate other races just for being other races per se, he hated primitiveness and decadency which he saw members of all races embodying to some degree. Sure, he especially focused on the strong correlation of this degeneracy and other races, but he also had the same vitriol for the inbred white New England hillbillies he portrayed in many of his stories. He was willing to marry a Jewish woman who he considered properly civilized, I'm sure he'd love to see what other sci-fi/horror/weird fiction creators did with his creation regardless of their ethnicity.

If you actually read his many correspondences, you can see that he had a good sense of humor and jest about his and other author's cosmic horror works.
