Which in this case is the mobile games, where your only guaranteed idols are either Rin, Uzuki, or Mio, whom you pick at the beginning (and tutorial Miku, in the case of the original mobage).
Thus, it was mandated that they would necessarily need to have more relative screen time than the others by the end.
The 2011 anime, similarly, was made to advertise Idolmaster 2, in which you could select any of the 13 idols from the beginning.
Thus it was mandated that each idol necessarily have at least one episode of focus to themselves and a relative balance of screen time.

The iM@S series just needs to avoid the melodrama and focus on light and fluffy episodes. Having an overarching plot is fine, and some conflict like President Kuro was okay. More slice of life and silly interacting between the various idols. This is a series that could actually pull off cakes doing cake things for an episode would be amazing. Just imagine an episode of Azusa, Kaede, Sanae, and the other cakes all hanging out, having drinks, and doing cake idol things.
The anime still did manage to make me appreciate all the other idols more, with the exception of Rin and Mio. I'd be down for more CG just to have a chance to see all the other girls. Guess it's on to Million Live, though.

There were no even proper shots of good animation, lots of wide shots of glowing sticks. Lots of time when the camera was swinging the whole stadium and almost can see any animation happening. What the fuck.
That's why even if the Love Live movie had lots of 3d for the dances, at least you can see the fucking routines.
