Watched it yesterday. Really mediocre to say the least.
Tons of shitty CGI, predictable,uninteresting plot, characters and world.
Mediocre just mediocre, not a single drop of originality came out of it.

The use of 3DCG 4noraisin and the constant use of 2fps rotoscoping for background characters makes it look cheap as all fuck. Moreover, I can't help but feel dejavu with the character interactions, I'm almost certain it was calked from somewhere else. Moreover, the story development was extremely poor and felt tacked on. Overall, 6.5/10.
It's below summer wars and wolf children but above GTLTT. Story is not that original, but the execution is fantastic. Something like an 8/10

Just saw the Movie. I thought it was ok, nothing spectacular like other Anime Movies. The friendship between the boy and the beast felt a bit forced in the end. The final fight felt too supernatural. Glad there was no romance through. Overall an OK Movie. ITS NOT HIS BEST MOVIE THATS FOR SURE

I've got like zero interest in Hosoda anymore. I like Digimon and Leapt Through Time was okay, but Summer Wars was rather dull and this just looks like your run of the mill family friendly popcorn junk. As far as contemporary directors of animated film, Hosoda can't even come close to Katabuchi or Hara. I'll watch One Piece eventually, though.

seeing it this weekend, dubbed, at a movie theater. wish me luck /a/.
It would have made a better seasonal anime. A lot of the plot and character relations were too rushed. It skipped over an entire decade of his life and his journeys to find the meaning of strength, or his relationship with the boar brothers.

This. I'm glad Kaede was showing an interest in Ren, but considering the time constraints of the movie and that he was out of human society for 8 years I'm glad they didn't try to suddenly have him go mushy around her at any time.
