It can, you can fade to black and show more internal monologue. There are multiple themes going on in the route, bonds, family, acceptance, etc. Sex in the original VN, apart from being wrote standard were facilitating the acceptance part and understanding Sakura's mentality. The key to showing it is understanding Sakura and Shirou's relationship as well as Sakura's hangups. Fleshing out the interludes of their past together is essential, because we don't have the context of the other routes where Shirou talks about how she is a member of his family and how important she is to him. I do hope the movie shows all the interludes, they are immensely important for context on why shit happens and why the characters feel the way they do.
What could be done instead of showing the sex straight up is a neat fade to black, but more emphasis on internal monologue and dialogue before and afterwards. There is actually good dialogue in HF before they do the deed, and the madness that is show during and after are plot points. A movie is better than a VN for the less observant because it does (or should) put what is supposed to be expressed purely through single event CGs into animated sequences and turning purely internal monologue into expressive dialogue.
The thing where uniting with Sakura started affecting Shirou should definitely be covered to show how potent the blackening is and give the viewer clues that it's not just "hey Sakura is crazy". Good direction is definitely needed.
If I look at this as a director or writer, it makes me want to pull my hair out trying to find ways to make this into a film and do justice to the work. It's certainly gonna be a challenge. I'd say the wisest thing they could do is announce holding off the project until they are ready to make an anime because it's frankly stupid otherwise.

Yeah, that was fucking great. HA was basically built around trying to give everyone more of stuff with their favorite characters from FSN, and when it was bled dry of as much content as 2005 Nasu and the various additional writers could come up with, he told people to fuck off and move on.

I've actually met someone in real life who personally dipped thousands of dollars into Clash of Clans of all things. Guy's in his 40s. Has a full, steady job. Oh in terms of conversion that guy blows about $800 USD in 90 seconds. He gets his piece of artwork after about $250 followed by an orgasm and tears of joy at his "accomplishment" and then proceeds to crank even more gacha pulls. It's not as bad as the Granblue Fantasy story and also Fate has way more ridiculous Gacha rates than most games so the gambling addicted whales probably put in as much as a several grand to get the cards they want hence the bloated earnings early on in events and how it just kind of dies any time there isn't one. The most successful events seemed to be Scáthach and one of the Saber and Nobunaga ones. By comparison the latest crossover one was pretty middling, it barely did any better than one of the generic Starlight Stage events but the money's still there from the ones that want to catch em' all.
There's supposed to be a Pokemon mobage coming out which is just going to be nuts and probably where we're going to see the crackdown finally happen when several kids charge their parents phone bill up the ass and angry salarymen start making noise

Well that's why there's more and more people calling for some sort of regulation to protect people prone to gambling addiction after the whole Anchira story went viral. There was a huge crackdown in 2012 where companies like Bamco got fined and the complete gacha mechanic where you have to get 3 or more different items and combine them together to get the real one was banned outright for being overwhelmingly exploitative. I play Record Keeper a bit but have maybe put $20 bucks into it at one point just to see how the mechanic works. I still have most of it but if I don't get anything worthwhile out of it I'll never be spending a cent again and just play it casually. That's the big difference though, I know when to stop, whales don't.
Like I said in the long run it's probably just going to make Type/Moon look really really bad and turn people off them forever rather than introduce people to the brand in a positive and fun way in the long run like Nasu was hoping.

Since Fate Grand Order came out I swear it's currently the most pandering trashy franchise out there. Like every time I see something on pixiv I can pretty much identify it as Fate/GO straight up based on how Fujo bait the artwork looks in the cases of male characters or how cheesecake the outfits are for the females. Again I just don't know how it's fans take it so fucking seriously still. Even the original had a ton of ridiculous moments that don't warrant it.
