One of CLAMP's favorite themes is that romantic love can overcome literally anything: gender (Toya/Yukito), age (Rika/Yoshiyuki), time/space (other Sakura/Syaoran), being human (Hideki/Chii). In that sense, she's hardly exceptional; in fact, I think Syaoran and Sakura are even more surprising considering it's they made the main romance in the series between a Chink and a Nip.

This isn't true. In the manga Usagi was in middle school and Mamoru was in high school. IIRC they are actually only four years apart.
In the anime the age gap seemed a bit wider because of Mamoru's behavior in that he looks and acts way older than he really is, but he didn't head off to college there until Sailor Stars.

The fun thing is that it was never treated as a corncern. Li never took issue about feeling attracted to a guy. Neither Sakura or Tomoyo had any issue with it. And when Touya and Yukito went out of the closet everyone was a-ok with it.

How do you think they met? Who initiated the romance? How do you think the rest of the town would react when they find out on her wedding day they've been dating since she was in at least 4th grade?
