If you're already familiar with source material, why obsess with a 1:1 adaptation? An anime's purpose is to generate interest among those unfamiliar with the manga. Some cut content and artistic liberties are fine.

Kekkai Sensen followed the source material, it just also had an original storyline added to it to give the show a sense of whole because otherwise it'd just be a bunch of episodic stories stringed together in 12 episodes. It was an excellent adaptation.
