Just finished this. The first 24 episodes were alright, but the final truly elevated it for me.

The whole 2nd half elevated it for me. I thought it was boring until shit got real.
Did not expect a drama about the love pentagon of some middle schoolers would be good. Surprisingly, upping the ante to a love heptagon improved the situation.

Pretty good but I found it kind of hard to care about all the drama. It didn't help how it started so early in the show during which you didn't really know the characters very well yet.

It was either start to finish drama or shoehorn in comedy at the beginning like most shows. It was probably better this way.
Spent too much time world building to focus on character interactions and even then those interactions were shallow as fuck.
The ayumu pairing made no sense to me at the time.
Best kind of forced drama plus some weird, atmospheric worldbuilding. I loved it

I remember the first 6 episodes being really shitty, but it is my all time favorite anime. I think somehow because it was so shit at the start that it looks even better in retrospect

Drama for the sake of drama. Just like Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso.
It sucked at the start and seemed like a shitty PA works anime or something.
But somehow it really drew me in half way through and actually got good.

I think the ending of the first half was fantastic and it really helped build tension for the second half, which was carried further by Miuna being adorable. Hikari also had really steady growth throughout the series which was nice to see.
It had a lot of flaws but overall it was strong, one of my favorite anime the year it started. Hopefully PA Works' next anime is good, the last two have been total shitters.
The drama wasn't so good. I liked the atmosphere though. It's not bad.

Haruchika is entertaining, but definitely not even close to their best work and Shirobako was pretty fucking great.
MIUNA
Who cares about Miuna or Manaka? Chisaki is the best girl in the show.
It all started with the premise that it's going to be about Mnaka - Hikari - Tsumugu love triangle. Chisaki was basically an unimportant character, an outsider. And that's why it felt so fucking unfair when in the end she was the only one who really suffered after that festival events. She lost her home, she lost her parents, she lost all her friends. She was forced to live outside of the sea with people she barely know.
Also Miuna knew Hikari like for a month or two when she was only 9 yo. Chisaki lived with Tsumugu for 5 fucking years. Chisaki - Tsumugu's relationship looked so much more logical and believable compared to Miuna - Hikari.
Miuna = Sayo > Manaka >>> Chisaki

Skips what? The whole point of the show was that neither of characters changed after the time skip. You don't need to accept anything, all characters are exactly the same. The idea that you need to change if you want to move forward was the main motive of the story. And the second half is all about characters actually changing.

Good but I prefer it end in tragedy, with either Miuna or Manaka (preferably Manaka) sleep in the sea forever with the survivor end with Hikari.
In hindsight I don't like the deus-ex-machina "love of everyone floating in the sea" things but at least it is a beautiful scene I admit that.
Every main characters are great except Manaka.
