This is the same argument the RIAA made like ten fucking years ago, assuming everyone who pirates media had the option to buy it.
To reiterate we literally have no choice to see current anime as it airs besides torrenting, plebstream, or crunchyroll (paid plebstream). The thing is that CR does not give money direct to studios but to the publishers and TV Tokyo (and keeps the rest for themselves), so it is entirely a false pitch they're shilling saying you're helping the industry with their shit.
To boot the pricing model nips use for BDs is simply not applicable to how the rest of the world works and so it is a tough sell. I recall years back they did indeed used to sell BDs at more reasonable prices in foreign markets but then stopped because the otaku in Japan were just buying those foreign versions and having them shipped back to Japan. It's hard to think of something that I would feel fine with giving money to unless I know for sure it helped studios directly but doesn't cost ridiculiusb sums like BDs. The industry makes olenty of revenue but studios get buttfucked how it is unless they own the license for the series. The model is broken and only fucking barely works in Japan itself to prevent studios from dying outright, what makes then think it'll function here?

The only LN which was licensed here is Haruhi, and it sells like shit.
