I dropped that shit fairly early on, after what felt like the fifth consecutive chapter of the MC standing there, panting and sweating, while surrounded by robots who were making mean faces at him, very pointedly NOT SHOOTING AT ANY OF THEM WITH THE GUN IN HIS HAND. 18 pages of that shit, several times in a row.

I'm in the same boat that you are, I heard a lot about Gantz before I sat down to watch it. I watched the first five minutes then deleted the whole of it. Later I went back and watched the series then read the manga and even though it was so bad it made me angry a few times, I still love it because what a ride it was. I unironically liked the alien machines in the last story arc. They were awesome.

Get to the start of Katastrophe and stop. When it begins, everything turns to shit. Writer realizes he needs to end it, but he's so used to stretching it out he clusterfucks the shit out of the pacing. Several major events happen offscreen and half the shit's illogical. Maybe read the last 5-10 chapters for closure and some memorable laughs at how bad it gets (lol America, lol Gantz purpose reveal).

In the end he just said "Fuck it, there's another race of aliens who is way more powerful, but for some reason never interefere."
The ending was the absolute worst. The author had no plan where he was going with any of it, so he made up the "room of explanations" (not even kidding), with an alien delivering exposition for several pages.
Fuck the people, who kept telling me it would get better and all would be explained.
