Nice-guy protagonists that are done well and aren't bland as a potato.

>done well
Vash was WAY too emotional imo.
Nicholas (the priest) was a better approximation of a well done, good character
>>
>was he a nice guy?

A good guy and a moralfag are two different things anon. Also Vash a shit

In this case the moralfaggotry is justified

Might seem silly at first but the man is practically a saint considering the world he grew up in and is surrounded by. He's pretty much the most moral person in anime when you think about it.
>>
>>137854304
No, he really really isn't.

He grew up deciding to be a payed murderer, being a farmer who defends himself would be moral.
In the world he is in I would say he is neutral.

Thorfinn refusing to rape women after the battles letting sweaty fat bald vikings deflower the maidens instead of him is more of a "nice guy"
>>
>>137853387
I think I'd classify him as a nice guy on the inside. Sure he's easily irritable and a slacker, but he seems to treat people he deems good pretty well.

The problem is not when characters are too emotional, it's when those emotions lead them to make mistakes but there are no consequences, I think that doesn't happen in Trigun, Vash being emotional deals him with various consequences he has to deal with. An example is his fucked up body full of scars.
>>
>>137853444

literally the worst song that has ever existed. I always compare Vash to Lupin. They're so intriguing to watch. It's cute when they're silly, but when they're serious, you're so emotionally invested in what they'll do.

Didn't Lupin rape a girl in the original Monkey Punch mango?

Also the first part of green jacket Lupin have some kind of dark moments and stories with Lupin and Jigen actually killing a lot of people.
>>
man, this thread just reminded me when I was 14 and thought psychopaths in anime were the coolest shit

glad I'm out of that now but remembering it sure makes me feel uncomfortable

He did force himself on girls but It was justified because the girls would always beg for more and fall for him afterwards.

also the green jacket series wasn't that dark as it may have seemed.

Literal perfection in a main character.
>>
>>137855833

He compromised his ideals when there was no other choice, instead of the usual writer copout

That puts him leagues about the average protagonist by itself
>>
>>137856959
>>137857084
I'm not defending it, but in the context of the story, it wasn't a big deal. It was comedic.

Spike was not a nice guy fyi.
Choosing not to commit evil acts, doesn't make you inherently nice.
Just like doing nice things occasionally, doesn't change the fact you can be mean as fuck.
Spike was the wind and each day he could have different feelings on a certain subject.
>>
>>137857866
No it isn't. It's a rewritting of one of the original arcs. It's non-canon, just a bit of fun Nightow was having Instead of pushing for a Maximum adaptation like he should.

Guts is amoral, border lining evil.
The fact that he doesn't wish harm on any given person is his only redeeming factor. Anyone who gets in his way would be cut down for his goals.

Dude, what are you even on about?

He actively goes out of his way to help the woman he loves whenever he can, he not only doesn't rat out his best friend, he chooses to NOT shoot his dirty traitor head in when he has the chance, he buried his good friends with his own two hands and took it upon himself to avenge them, he took a bullet for his boss, he gives up the love of his life to said boss because it will enable her to live a better life, he puts in a great word for his first supervisors so they not only have better working conditions, they can also retire a lot earlier to help pay for much needed medical bills, he takes a man under his wing and sets him on the right course for life, he doesn't betray his own ideals and code even when it conflicts with his career, he listens and looks out for his best friend even going so far as joining up in the same group as him, he saves the daughter of his boss and love of his life numerous times, and at the end of it all, when he has the chance to right his mistake from all so many years ago, he chooses once again to FORGIVE A SECOND TIME this man that took everything from him.

You sir, are scum and unworthy to utter even one syllable of negativity against this indomitable individual. This man, Brandon Heat, led an hard, exemplary life of self-sacrifice and dedication and I will not have you besmirch the man's good name.

>>137858173

I think OP means by nice guy that they basically have a strong moral code about life and death.

Vash and Kenshin both go out of their way to avoid killing people which makes their stories a bit more interesting.
