Aliens are simply an interpretation of god-like beings.
>>
>>137769425
the alien was a metaphor for paranormal in the internet. Basically the mascot for /x/ if you will

when she became god, she became a paranormal internet meme, thus she appeared as that mascot to some people who believe in aliens and that stuff

The whole episode was Lain gathering information on the Wired. Just like with the internet when you dig deep you'll find some real information, on the workings of governements and coroporations but you'll also find conspiracy theories about illuminati, aliens and reptilians.

This episode was the same, some of the stuff was actual information concerning Tachibana labs while other was was just bullshit about roswell and aliens and people trying to hard to connect those two together.

It's basically a visualization of the misinformation and paranoia which develops on the internet.

Yeah, something like that. It's been a while so I forget the details, but basically, being near Lain wasn't healthy because something from the Wired brain burned her, thus listless Potato Girl until after the reset.
>>
>>137769558
The alien is also a symbol for the spreading of false rumors over the internet, as was explained in the Roswell episode earlier in the series. The same happened in the show where false information about Lain was spreading which -alienated- Arisu from her.
>>
>>137772706
The Knights hacked her brain to spy on Lain and plant a bomb in her computer. Her brain was fried and she was left an empty husk when the Knights had no more use for her.
>>
>>137774237
What? It was the knights that sabotaged mika and decided to use her as a surveillance device. Pic related is from the episode where she goes crazy and you can clearly see the knights' logo under her.

See the image. Aliens have nothing to do with the plot and Lain is not an alien. I don't know why so many people keep needing to have this explained.

>>137772706
Wired and real worlds are coming together, the Knights take her and trap her in between, using a fake her to spy on Lain and plant a bomb in her setup.

>>137772734
No, the whole family is human. They are a normal family. Yasuo (the dad) is a Tachibana employee tasked with watching over Lain.

>>137777822
She was. She was a normal girl in the family. If you pay close attention to her mannerisms before the Knights take her away, you can tell she resents that Lain is having to live with her. Same with the mother. Lain's just an annoyance they're tasked with watching over while Tachibana ostensibly pulls apart Eiri's scheme. Her mother knows the truth of why they have to watch her, but Mika is only aware that she's a new member of the family.

Watch the series again.
Look at every time Lain shows up and compare them.
It's hard to think of them all as the same character.
>>
Why does lains sister go nuts?
>>
>>137783040
Knights/whatshisname fuckery.
>>
>>137783011
They aren't the same character. Only Lain and Wired Lain are the same Lain, and the Wired Lain is merely a personality Lain has online when she's not shy talking in front of people. Peeping Tom Lain and the very first Wired Lain that appears at Cyberia are Knights fabrications used to manipulate Lain's emotions and actions. The Lain she encounters at the end is an inner dialogue.
>>

Oh I don't know, try reading the fucking thread

>Wired Lain is merely a personality Lain has online when she's not shy talking in front of people

Also the "her" that she has closer to her real nature. Normal personality is her as a new human unaware of her nature.

>>137784308
It's what I got out of it. It really resonated with how I feel about the internet, too.
>>
>>137785194
Thing is, Ueda, one of the creators, said in an interview with Anime Jump that the wired was created simply as a medium for the characters to communicate, and that he wasn't reacting to the internet or trying to incorporate it into a message.
>>
>>137785194
>>137785361
And to add, the wired in Lain is relevant to the plot and its ideas, but not in the way that its message is specifically related to the internet or digital communication. The wired in Lain exists as a parallel idea to the idea of human connection (thus is where Lain as a fragment ended up floating around until Eiri found her), and human communication itself is the primary theme of the series.
>>
>>137785361
Well then he did it by accident, I guess. It's still there.
The author is dead, anyway.
>>
>>137785451
Ueda and Konaka are still alive, unless you're trying to pull some "Death of the Author" bullshit.
>>
>>137785513
Yeah, that's what I was trying to say. Just because they see it that way doesn't mean everyone else has to.
>>
>>137785668
The author creates the ultimate truth of the piece, regardless of your interpretations. You don't have to see it the same way, but you have to understand that there is a single truth that your interpretation may or may not have correct. I'm not getting into this because it's a simple thing to understand if you're not pretentious.
>>
>>137785795
>The author creates the ultimate truth of the piece
That doesn't mean he understands it. We're interpreting the work, not the author's brain.
>>
>>137785858
The work was created by the author's brain. The author does understand their work because they fucking created it and had each intricate element in mind with specific ideas. That is how a plot/character/setting structured piece works unless specifically and comprehensively stated otherwise.

Not entirely.
>The author does understand their work because they fucking created it and had each intricate element in mind with specific ideas.
Yeah, but if they didn't put those ideas on paper then they don't exist outside of their mind.

Check out this artwork that I made. As its author, I'm telling you that it's about the struggle of man against his own nature and the decline of Western civilization. If you disagree with that interpretation, you are a fool or a pretentious hipster.

Literal meme magic
No I'm not joking. It's about how the most absurd shit can make its way into the real world via memetics. Look at absurdities like gamer gate, sjw shit, any number of myths, they leak out the internet via myth and memes.
>>
>>137786284
Two totally different circumstances that matter because of specific contextual reasons you are not taking into account. I'm not carrying on with this discussion because you're just going to continue to ignore the point.

is this the greatest show of all time /a/?

who are the five Lains?

I figure "she" wasn't acting like that all the time. Her mom's really absent minded and careless anyway, so I figure she's not very invested in her life.
>>
>>137786494
Because I said so. Fuck you I'm right you're wrong.
I suppose I could have clarified.
It's more about how absurd ideas and rumours make their way to the real world by being spread around via memes.
