Shit ending, shit plot development. It's a heaping pile of coulda been.
Got around to watching it a little bit ago, world seemed interesting but nothing was done with it, the proxy fights got less interesting and served as a poor narrative tool to have A's point of view be wrong,most of the story was dropped in the game show episode, I didn't find any of the dialogue really interesting and as already stated, it seemed like the writers couldn't ever argue some philosophical point and chose to have things fight instead.
It was alright 7.5/10 territory and Pino is best character.

I became interested in it around when it originally aired, so many years ago now.
I never got to watch it back then due to various circumstances, but I kept the memory of my interest in my pocket until just a year or two ago.
Finally watched it, not with high expectations, but with excitement, interest, and an open mind.
It was just not that great. It invariably tried too hard, or half assed it up, and ended up walking a fine line between pretentious and completely lacking in substance, with a pretty shitty pace overall.

Illusion of depth is better, than typical half-assed plot with no idea behind it. Also, i wouldn't be whiteknighting it if I didn't find true depth in it for me - wich is very rare thing for anime in general, only a handful of shows have left me with such impression.
It is not basic sci-fi, it's plot is above like 99% sci-fi shows both in TV and chineese cartoons. Raul's theomachist tryharding alone is worth most of them.

Texnolyze and Lain kept my attention a lot better. The fact that this show'a brilliant soundtrack (god tier opening btw) and visuals were wasted on these boring characters irked my ass.
Pino was my favourite character in the show and the ending left me disappointed. Also Re-Al is a spoiled bitch.

It's like a less interesting Texnolhyze without any of the tension. So instead of good pacing you just get a lot of dead time.
I still liked it, but even as someone who enjoys things that are slow as fuck, this just had a lot of downtime.
