Not just anyone can get their hands on a F1 car, though. It's not exactly my field of expertise, but I'd imagine that you have to show your racing prowess using more commonplace cars first, on your own dime. Then you can get some sponsors for your actual racing-grade vehicles.
How exactly would this process proceed with tanks? As far as I know, they don't exactly hand fully functioning tanks out to civilians, and schools sure as shit aren't about to start doing what they do in the GuP universe, where even failing high schools have several tanks in a garage.
If it became an active sport, you'd probably see the development of much cheaper civilian tanks for use in sport that can be reasonably bought by a civilian team (low powered cannon that's intended to fire paint balls instead of shells, thin armor that's not really made to hold up in actual combat, top-mounted paintball rifle, normal radios, etc.), and it would become much more accessible with that, but I don't see how it would get off the ground to begin with. Maybe if people made a few of those civilian tanks to begin with and started setting up matches out in the middle of bumbfuck nowhere?

To be fair, if you're getting shot by a tank, whatever you're wearing is fucking irrelevant. With the MGs, you can probably have a rule to have them wear bullet-proof vests or something, but tank shells? If you got hit by one somehow, you're dead regardless of what you're wearing.
Besides, its fucking rare compared to getting MG'd even in real life. Unless the opponent is specifically aiming at the exposed TC, they most probably won't hit the TC.
