Greatest love story ever told.
>>

the illiad is the greatest love story ever told, Toradora is just a meme pal
>>
It's keit-ai without the alternate universe.
>>
>>137585549
I don't get it either, it is a good first half with an awful second half. Good thing Minori and Ami dodged that bullet called Ryuji.
>>
>>137586000
>Ryuji

>>
>>137585549
Because it has good characters, good pacing, isn't subsumed by its own cliches and has a fairly conclusive ending.
>>

He certainly was a girl.
>>
Taiga' silky smooth thighs.
>>
>>137586030
It has three decent characters and two shit ones.
>>
Basically what happened was, people called it "the greatest love story ever told" as a joke, but the redditors and MALers didn't think we were joking, so now some unironically think it's good.
>>
Ryuuji was a bro.

Taiga's dere moments were endearing, even if her tsun moments were insufferably cuntish.

The characters had some depth, which is a lot since most anime are cardboard cutout caricatures of humanity. They had flaws as people and while some of them were actively worked on to overcome others remained which led to story development as the series progressed.

It felt human. The moments when it tried to hit home, it hit home like Hiroshima.
>>
It's a decent love story, and for most anime viewers, it's probably their first romance anime. My biggest complaint was that both of the other girls, were more likeable. I almost wish the story was between Ryuji and Ami, because Ami was a pretty interesting character.

It's like they wanted to put some sort of twist on the end and couldn't think of an actual idea.

It really doesn't. It had decent to good direction by animu standards but the writing was trash.

There are a few scenes that look fantastic but for the most part the direction and visuals in general are utterly unimpressive. I could probably count on two hands all of the shots I actually liked.
>>
>>137585549

There are shockingly few romance anime that progress the main relationship at a reasonable pace without resorting to drastic shoujo stalling or harem antics, so Torodora gets a free pass due to lack of competition.
>>
>>137587038
Where did I say anything about impressive? Well, the fact that I didn't fall asleep 10 seconds in like I do with average seasonal shows qualifies the direction as good.
>>
>>137587073
>reasonable pace
>no drastic shoujo stalling or harem antics
Did we watch the same show?
Ryuji and Taiga should have gotten together by episode 13. There's constantly new drama and stupid side romances to excuse why they don't.
>>
>>137587174
No, it doesn't. It counts as barely competent.

Anime does not have significantly lower quality of visual direction than any visual other medium. In fact I would say that it's actually slightly above average simply due to the level of freedom a creator has in shot composition and movement.

Because it had some decent relationship developments that weren't just hamfisted in without reason? The MC and supporting cast are weak in some areas, but the story itself isn't awful, just not good in some places. Taiga is also probably one of the better written female characters in this genre.

Depends on what you think Toradora's supposed to be about also: A romance triangle of multiple contestants vs A story describing various takes on what love is and isn't.

Good one, but the Lysistrata is the best love story comedy ever told
>>
>>137587556
You were acting like it was a forgone conclusion that anime is visually less impressive than other media. At least I presented an argument for why I disagreed.
>>
>>137587628
>visually less impressive
We were talking about direction. Your spaghetti is showing, stupid weeaboo.
>>
>>137587738
Yes, and one of the primary features of the visuals is the direction. But I get it, you don't actually want to argue, you just want to have a tantrum because I didn't accept your baseless assumption as a good defense for your shit show. Fuck off.
>>
>>137587628
Anima can be visually impressive, but all too often it isn't especially for adaptions or serialized episodes for TV due to budget restraints and the fact that for all the options for anime to be used as an artistic medium, even more options exist to save a buck by using cheap gimmicks.

Also fan bases tend to be exceptionally shit.
>>
I don't know either, I mean it's not bad, but it's too long and sometimes, too many times actually, it's boring, and some characters are too annoying. So it could have been better if they had made a 12 chapters series.
>>
>>137587825
Except I wasn't talking about visuals at all when I mentioned direction. Don't put words into my mouth just so you can have an argument where there is none. Then again, re-reading >>137587038 you're probably really just that retarded to genuinely misinterpret what I said from the get go.
>>
>>137588160
That's literally impossible. It would be like talking about the plot structure without talking about the writing. The two are intrinsically linked. But if you want to talk about direction specifically, then my opinion is exactly the same for the reasons outlined here >>137587389.
>>
>>137587192

Yes, but there was always a different reason for drama. With shoujo there is one reason that constantly repeats.
>>
>>137588214
Can you just for a minute stop pretending to be retarded? You knew what I meant. You yourself specifically said ">scenes that look fantastic" as if that's the extent as direction goes. Kyoanus objectively has pretty visuals but every single one of their shows bore me to tears. From the way you write I'm guessing you're not over 18 yet.
>>
>>137588380
How then does Toradora use direction to keep the viewer engaged? What specific techniques? What shots did you like? What scenes? Give me specifics so I can grasp what you're trying to say.

Golden Time is better.

I think normalfags like Toradora because they are all betacucks and women, so watching a grown man get the shit beat out of him by a midget girl turns them on.
>>
>>137585549
A simple but effective love story for young males. Low on harem content even if tuned up for the anime. Side characters added to support the story rather than to sell you a waifu.
Not being a more serious adult drama romance or a shoujo Toradora hits a particular niche that is often fed nothing but boob bouncing harem in terms of romance and rarely get anything of substance catered specifically to them.
>>
>>137592121
>Golden Time is better.

I wish it was but it really wasn't. The anime looked like it got half the budget Toradora did, which wasn't even JC STAFF's biggest bet to begin with. Kaga Kouko was a decent female lead, and the anime is good up until the halfway point, but anything involving ghost banri and the amnesia was awful. The drama was infuriating, and Banri's feelings wavering between girls because "m-muh past self liked the other girl" was annoying. I fucking wish Golden Time was half as good as Toradora.
Maybe the adaptation was weak, though some of the core elements seem bad.

She was one of the strong points of the show.
>>
>>137595439
Certain character points, like Taiga being nice at Christmas, feel like they were written backward. Like the writers wanted Taiga to be nice at Christmas and then came up with some reason why she would be rather than just letting the character act naturally at Christmas.
>>
>>137600253

I thought that was Taiga being more comfortable around new friends which was why she opened up that way? She still didn't tell anyone her reasoning for it besides Ryuji.
>>
>>137600370
No, the reason for it is some BS involving a dream about Santa Claus and being nice so she'll get a gift. Also some vague sentiment about being kind to family at Christmas. It's explained, but it would have have made just as much or even more sense if Taiga hated Christmas due to it's association with spending time with your family.

To be fair, the pairing was obvious from the start and was pretty much thrown in your face in the first few minutes of the episode with the internal monologue. The whole point was to illustrate that it isn't so much a question of who ends up with whom, but a story giving its take on what that "something in this world that no one has seen" is and isn't.
