The vibe I've gotten from /a/ overall is they usually don't like these characters much. They see them as flat, generic Marty Stus. In fact, it borders on hatred most of the time. Kirito is a great example of that. Just watch the upcoming reactions.

They're great when they have an interesting or diverse secondary cast behind them that regularly gets a perspective focus to play off of that straightforward nature of the MC's abilities.
Terrible when focus and framing falls almost exclusively on the MC and his/her endeavors/conquests throughout the majority of a narrative.
Medaka Box was great, for instance, when it came to the characters who were influenced by Medaka and her actions, and not so much whenever it became about Medaka herself.

I wouldn't like them all the time but it's important to have a variety of MCs, people have a variety of personalities after all. There are some people who are just good and know they're good.
I prefer it to cry baby no confidence MC's personally I can't relate to that at all and it can get quite aggravating when they don't let it up.
