I prefer TTGL because I like its characters more, its music is better, it was consistently entertaining whereas KLK got really boring after a while, I like its concepts more, I like Simon as a main character more than Ryuko, I like how the battles play out in GL more, and I like its themes more. The only thing KLK has over it are the girls and the lewds.

funnily enough I am almost diametrically opposed to you. I thought KLK's cast as a whole was much better. TTGL for me was pretty much just Kamina, Simon, Yoko, and I guess Nia. Whereas I liked and remember almost every single character in KLK. And I thought KLK kept up the pace a lot better than TTGL did too. I'm not saying the field trip episodes were great, but they were more memorable and exciting, at least to me, then the episodes towards the middle of GL. GL had a better final battle, but KLK had better battles throughout. Both had good themes imo.
Also girls. I fucking loved Ragyo's character/voice acting.

Overall KLK has funnier characters, in TTGL it kinda felt like they weren't given enough room to banter and a lot of the minor characters had pretty stock personalities. I mean, most of the Gurren-dan was just "violent manly dude".
