I don't think WE will do it, but I think future anime fans will. Anime will just get uglier, and the 2010s will be looked back at as the last decade with acceptable looks. Anime will become more and more CG, and get uglier and uglier.
If proper, drawn anime somehow manages to survive, there is a chance we will look at the current anime as ugly, though. It has some flaws.

I assume that eventually CG will look pretty good, and even better than hand-drawn anime.
It's like when games transitioned from 2d to 3d. We look back at those first 3d games and they look like shit. But quality 2d games, from the same era, look beautiful even today.
I think it's just a matter of time, while the anime industry still learns how to make proper CG.

Even $500 million budget movies look like shit compared to seasonal anime. It's not just about learning to use the technology. If CG anime is to look as good as hand drawn, there needs to be big improvements to the technology itself. Maybe the time period right after the switch will be seen as a dark age of anime, like the 2000s are now.

Escaflowne looks good. It has character, its own style in a good way. The noses really help Escaflowne.
A problem with modern anime could be that it looks so sterile. It may simply be that I'm used to it because that's what I watch the most, but they seem to have weak colours with characters that look flat and boring.

The noses in MLP aren't that big, unless you are talking about the older stuff. They do have noses, but they are usually not very visible, and I think Escaflowne noses are much bigger.

If you look carefully, the noses technicaly are relatively big compared to anime, but they are in one with the mouths in a way, so it kinda works like the in-curve between the eyes above the mouth in 90s anime, where the mouth and nose curve out again. They don't draw attention. Unless you see them from straight ahead, then they are awkward circles that stick out

Unless the production of anime suddenly becomes more advanced and easier to incorporate more design without muh budget problems then I think this will stay how it is for a while. I honestly think CGI won't get anywhere since no company desires to make a good CGI anime.
