2011 downsides were the overused few soundtracks and the Kaito flashback postponed for no reason.
I also liked the look of nen better in 1999 but that's a personal preference.
Other than that 2011 is better in basically everything and has no fillers.
One scene I really prefer in 1999 is the Ging's tape one.

Spider Arc was flawless in 1999, especially the Pacu scene. 2011 was better overall though. Either way, Yu Yu Hakusho and Level E are both better than Fujo Hunter.

When Gon meets Kite again in the first episode of the Ant Arc, they have flashbacks to the time Gon met him first time, which should have happened in the episode 1. However, they left Kite out of episode 1, probably because they thought the Ant Arc wouldn't be animated.

- 1999 shows the full fight between Kurapika and Hisoka; 2011 and the manga didn't (however, the fight still took place, and can be considered canon).
- 1999 also has an awkward filler fight between Gon and Illumi, which never happened in the manga or 2011.
- 2011 shows the full fight between Hisoka and Kastro. 1999 didn't.
- 2011 animates the Chimera Ant arc and the 13th Hunter Chairman Election arc
- A lot of characters have different hair and eye colour; also differnent coloured clothes between the two versions
- 1999 has four filler episodes (3 of them are great); 2011 has two recap episodes
- 1999 adapted chapter 1 better in the first episode, showing Kite at the beginning; it's like the only notable thing that keeps the 1999 version from being obsolete
