Why do Nips love using these Rune-Circles things when showcasing magic in a anime/manga?
>>
To show something is being casted.
It's not even just a nip thing. Tons of MMOs, nip and western, use some kind of rune circle.

It's also chuuni as fuck and everyone knows any magic anime/manga is just chuuni wish fulfillment.
>>
>>137344137

Because most of the time they literally just type "magic sigils" into google and pick the ones that look cool without any regard for context or meaning. It's one of the many reasons why Japs are actually pretty terrible at fantasy.
>>
Because it's cool.

Alchemy is go to symbol of western arcane knowledge/magic.
Just like wheneveryou talk about eastern spirituality here, you get the same yin/yang symbols dragons and tigers. People associate them, it's like a buzzword of sorts.

Also, you can drop some nice glow and it will convey this shit has power, same with floaty rune circles.

Most of them come from Western ceremonial magic like the Golden Dawn (Crowley's lot) or various Hermetic orders like the OTO.
As to where they got it? Medieval alchemists mainly.

I think I started hating magic circles after watching Magi.

Well, if you read some old magical grimoires, they're not exactly wrong. A lot of them describe elaborate magic circles and runes that have to be drawn or carved out on the ground to perform specific rituals.
>>
Would you all rather
>draw complex magic circles on the ground before casting magic
or
>read out a long, complex chant in an ancient language
>>
>>137352335
You can't draw while moving, reading is superior
>>
>>137352335
>long, complex chant in an ancient language
Too bad these chants are usually cheesy as fuck, fueled by the chuuni.

Drawing complex magic circles seem a lot more "science-y"
>>
>>137352335
Either's fine if I can cast spells so that they activate on a trigger, effectively allowing me to pre-cast spells when I have the time to spare and actually use them on a moment's notice with little ritual involved.
>>
>>137350602
Gotta love how it's a bunch of western characters smashed into each other.
>>

I always wondered how different magic systems would interact with each other if they were meshed into a single universe.

Like say I take Nasuverse and Nanohaverse (these seem to be the more fleshed out systems out there).

Nasuverse's magecraft is hindered mostly because the World likes to reject whatever they do and could eventually be replicated with science. Where as Nanohaverse has large power outputs and rely on mathematical calculation. Getting around the World shitting on their system allowing huge power outputs.

Servants and their NPs, and one of a kind magi are the exceptions to that rule obviously.
Things like Cadalbolg vs. SLB would be a double KO.

I'm not sure how relevant this is, but some RPGs have magic systems that exist completely parallel to each other.

I thought Mahouka and Nanoha's system's might be meshed together, since they both share in the use of computerised magical foci and feature multiple systems of magic with different properties.

Are the mechanics and world rules they follow completely different from each other?

>>137356067
This is true. Mahouka has a lot of psuedo-science that drives its system. Things like Material Burst is pretty much a forcing a Hydrogen bomb down to the atomic level.

Though I was going for systems that are distinct from each other on a more thematic level.

Sacred geometry is being combined with symbols to make things happen. It's true enough.

These demonstrate the most power because the geometry simply appears in reaction to the thing it needs to create already being created by the master's will. Long hours of preparation on an actual physical circle are how you play with things you don't understand. Be careful, anons.
