I watched some Ranma 1/2 after years to reminisce, and was suddenly struck by shipping feels for Nabiki x Kuno. I didn't ship them at all back when I first read/watched Ranma 1/2, I had a different OTP then. But now, boom, instantly aboard the ship.
Has that happened to anyone else? Has time changed your approach to characters, pairings, or shows?

Yeah, Ranma 1/2 was funny in the sense that nearly the entire cast with the exception of Kasumi and maybe Ukyo was made of total assholes who were all horrible in their own way. I know Akane was supposed to have a heart of gold under the tsundere shell and the show rode on gratuitous over the top violence, but I still felt she was a massive bitch.
But Ranma and Ryoga, they're both warriors, they understand each other

The thing that makes Ranma 1/2 work compared to other harem series is that most of the girls are fiendishly competent fighters (or just fiendishly competent) and complete assholes but also that Ranma himself is a complete asshole that has it coming more often than not.

It's probably a good point, never thought of that. It's true, it's great that none of them is an innocent delicate doormat flower but instead they all (I think) are spunky and ruthless and really fight for their goals, as well as that everyone's a bit of an asshole and everyone gets kicked to the skies or has their ass handed to them occasionally. It makes for this cheerful rumble dynamic.
Except Akane, maybe. It'd have been nice if she'd have had to face some sort of repercussion for always thinking that everything is Ranma's fault - but even she was a relatively competent fighter.

They're perfect for each other. She's desperate for money (no wonder, living in a dojo with tight funds constantly needing repairs) and he's filthy rich, tall and handsome, she's devious and calculating but shit at fighting while he's a bit of a hapless romantic but great with the sword (he was reduced to a gag opponent against Ranma, but he's still very good and held his own against him in the introductory fight) and so on. She keeps calling him Kuno-chan in the anime and there's just something about her blatant selfishness and his steel-clad ego and pompousness that works imo.
