And the characterization is the most important thing in Monogatari, so it's a good tradeoff. Plus, the stories in Bake are too on-the-head, if that makes any sense. The resolutions are too clean and clear-cut. Bake doesn't start get to get away from that until the last couple episodes. Nise starts there.

A pile of shit. A show which somehow manages to pursuade dumb viewers that it's creative by making absurd backgrounds with hypnotic geometrical patterns and no actual effort and dialogue that seems like it was written by an 18 year old with zero shame who read maybe two books on philosophy and thinks he understands the entirety of social interaction.
It's really goddamn bad. The humor mostly derives from the main girl slinging insults at the MC over and over and him being all "Oh dang gurl, U mean but I'm a pussy-ass nigga who won't do anything about it and also I want that ass so yu know, I'mma keep it cool for now".

I don't think the show has any merit beyond the fanservice. The dialogue is 'amusing' on a pretty shallow level, and the whole show basically revolves around the dialogue, since the characters exist in this weird vacuum of a world where nobody else exists beyond them. It's like a stage play written by a high schooler who read some Schopenhauer. Anime really shouldn't attempt at talking about things beyond their medium unless they frame it in the proper context, for example something like Patlabor 2.
When it moves beyond that there is an awkward gap that makes it seem rather pretentious to people like myself.
Milky Holmes is fun and delightful because it's not being more than what it is. This show tries to, and it really doesn't work, and its really annoying. Just keep the panty flashes coming and the incest and the toothbrushing.
