It's going to be weird seeing this movie suddenly jump to having all the elements and what not present without a proper introduction to their characters and apparently be an anime original story.
Why is Sunrise seemingly so averse to doing just about anything but movies and OVAs these days anyway unless it's Gundam or Love Live? Is it because they feel they'd have better control over piracy and what not if they focus on that? Is it trying to focus on maintaining quality and scheduling over quantity? Are there just not enough TV spots available?
Really I consider it a miracle this is even getting made considering the way they've been about doing adaptations lately and it probably has something to do more with Bamco's involvement with the SAO/AW meta-franchise than anything else atm. Somehow I get the feeling that Dengeki/Bamco/Aniplex and the rest of the production committee had a far easier time convincing A-1 to take part in the SAO/AW Original movie project thing than Sunrise. If this wasn't going to be anime original somehow I just doubt it gets made.

Love Live seems to have derailed the whole Sunrise studio 8 adaptations thing which is a shame cause both Accel World and Horizon well exceeded my expectations. Had they stayed on board with LN adaptations maybe just maybe they wouldn't have ended up so shit and the dregs of the industry since Sunrise has a way of doing things differently and dare I say more fun on average.
Judging by this thread Accel World is dead. Maybe they should just skip past this to the latest adventures of Gary Stu in Alfheim Online movie that'll be way more popular anyway.

I like SAO but I just love the story and characters of AW so much more. And I was always waiting for a different game genre for these VR settings, especially since they're fucking everywhere since SAO became popular.
