Just finished watching this one, and while utterly senseless and batshit crazy at times i really enjoyed it, as it really turned Crowning Moment of Awesome up to 12, which made me overlook the shallowness of other aspects.
So yeah, please tell me your opinion and explain why we need bigger drills.

Still one of my favorite animes out there. It's inspiring, lots of fun and the philosophy is something I can use to lift myself up when there's some shit going down

This, honestly. Like, I understand it's not the best written mech show. And know that the hot blooded manly thing has been done so many times before. But TTGL was just fucking fun, and honestly, I think that's what most anime should strive for.

Should have put a lot more focus on the side characters instead of everything hinging around Simon's very dull character. Should have actually made them relevant.
The pilots and the support are the most crucial part of mecha and ttgl fails pretty hard at it.
The plot was as mediocre as it gets.
The visuals were the only real decent part of the show.
Kotetsushin Jeeg aired around the same time and was more entertaining desu

My feeling is this:
Eva is for dragging yourself out of a ditch, TTGL is for making you want to climb a mountain.
TTGL draga a little after the time skip, but its still a smart show in an endearingly retarded way.
I like how Kamina all but breaks the 4th wall and tells Simon to bullshit himself until the bullshit reaction becomes its own self sustaining energy source. Bullshit till you make it.
It's pretty much /fit/ "we're all gonna make it brah" mentality in nip cartography form.

As for why we need bigger drills, well, think of all the other universes there are to drill to.
Just remember the fundamental energy of the show that elicited your affection for it, for /a/ will try to break you of that notion.

I watched this for the first time back in October and for me I think the show should have ended after they defeated the Spiral King. The second half of the show added nothing but what we'd seen already and took away from its charm
I really liked this anime
But I find the final battle too much ridicolous and exaggerated...it doesn't really make sense

I don't what people like so much about this series. The characters are all shit,the mecha are uninteresting,the only positive thing i have to say about this series is the animation is very nice sometimes.

Sunrise mecha are just as popular, if not even more, and their library is also a lot more varied. Everything Gainax makes feels like it's babby's first anime. They fill their shit with references, parodies, ironic content, so that every single show of theirs become one big epic meme.
