The randomness is extreme but if you're just a fan of anime at the time that randomness offered something a little new or interesting compared to the other more tamed or "realistic" shows. Most anime at the time weren't like western cartoons that had exaggerated expressions; sure they had facefault and big eyes/mouths, but this show was a bit more out there relative to other anime. The voice acting wasn't the best but I did enjoy the music as it didn't have to be something classical or instrumental only.

Watching FLCL felt like hacing a fever dream. Nothing made sense and plot jumping all over the place like rabbit on cocaine. Animation was good I guess but story left no impression on me.
