Glad you enjoy Cobra, grab the movie too, it's not as good as the series for me but it's great stuff nonetheless.
Also, if you like Terasawa's designs check out the two Midnight Eye Goku OVAs, they're pretty neat.

Yeah, the animation is surprisingly good for such an old series, but I guess that's Dezaki's magic, after all most of his stuff is gorgeously animated regardless of the time.
If you like robots and nice animation do check out Giant Gorg, it's another anime which was really way too good for its time.

There were two OVAs and a one-cour TV series released between 2008 and 2010, in celebration of the manga's thirtieth anniversary. Not as lavishly animated as the older projects, but good pulpy fun.
